Job Summary: The Manager – Corporate Communication and PR at MTN Uganda is responsible for executing strategic communication plans that enhance MTN’s public image, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and drive engagement with media and external partners. The role focuses on public relations, media relations, digital communications, and reputation management, contributing to MTN Uganda’s broader business objectives and positioning as a leading telecom and technology company.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Communication Planning
- Execute corporate communication and PR strategies that align with MTN Uganda’s business goals and enhance the company’s brand image in the market.
- Work closely with the Senior Manager – Corporate Communications and PR to develop communication initiatives that effectively communicate MTN’s vision and leadership in digital transformation.
- Ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and resonates with key audiences, including customers, industry players, regulators, and the general public.
Stakeholder Management
- Engage and manage relationships with external stakeholders, including government officials, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders on joint communication efforts, ensuring MTN Uganda’s voice is heard in industry conversations and policy discussions.
- Support MTN foundation and community engagement initiatives, positioning MTN Uganda as a socially responsible corporate citizen.
Media Relations
- Foster strong relationships with local and international media, ensuring positive and accurate coverage of MTN Uganda’s initiatives and milestones.
- Prepare and distribute press releases, media kits, and other PR materials, ensuring timely and impactful communication of key announcements.
- Act as a liaison between MTN Uganda and the media, coordinating interviews, press briefings, and media queries.
Public Relations Management
- Lead proactive PR campaigns to enhance the company’s reputation and communicate its role as a driver of digital inclusion in Uganda.
- Manage crisis communication plans, addressing any reputational risks swiftly and effectively.
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing strategic advice to the Senior Manager on mitigating risks and leveraging positive narratives.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the PR agency, overseeing their work to align with MTN Uganda’s communication objectives, reviewing their performance, and optimizing collaboration for impactful results.
Digital and Social Media Strategy
- Oversee MTN Uganda’s digital PR presence, managing online platforms and ensuring that messaging aligns with broader communication goals.
- Monitor digital sentiment and manage online reputation, addressing any issues or negative coverage promptly.
- Develop and execute content strategies that increase engagement across social media platforms.
Content Development
- Create high-quality, engaging content for press releases, speeches, media statements, articles, and social media posts, ensuring alignment with MTN Uganda’s brand tone.
- Support senior executives with communication materials for public speaking engagements, media interviews, and events.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Increase in positive media coverage and stakeholder engagement.
- Successful execution of PR campaigns and management of crisis situations.
- Growth in online visibility and digital engagement.
- Strengthened relationships with media and key stakeholders measured by our annual Reputation Index survey.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years in corporate communications, public relations, or media management, preferably within the FMCG sector.
Attributes and Skills Necessary Skills:
- Strong media relations and crisis management expertise.
- Proven ability to manage external stakeholders, including government and regulatory bodies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of digital and social media strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence external audiences.
