Job Summary: To support on MTN Uganda’s regulatory and compliance obligations, liaising with regulatory stakeholders and advocating for MTN Uganda in relation to policy, legal and regulatory reform.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement MTN Uganda regulatory and compliance agenda.
- Provide regulatory support to local teams within operations.
- Prepare reports to management, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Manage, develop, and sustain effective working relationships with various stakeholders with a view of advancing company interests.
- Respond to inquiries of a regulatory nature from internal and external stakeholders.
- Carry out any other obligation or duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Key Performance Areas (Smart)
- Support the compliance of MTN Uganda with regulatory requirements.
- Support acquisition of key regulatory approvals and resources
- Implement MTN Uganda regulatory and compliance agenda.
- Provide regulatory support to local teams within operations.
- Prepare reports to management, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Manage, develop, and sustain effective working relationships with various stakeholders with a view of advancing company interests.
- Respond to inquiries of a regulatory nature from internal and external stakeholders.
- Carry out any other obligation or duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in law (Honours) from a recognised University
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre
- Post Graduate Qualification in Law or Business Administration is an added advantage.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Work Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a legal or regulatory role within the telecommunications industry or at least 2 years as an Advocate in a busy Law Firm or having worked as an in-house counsel in reputable organization.
- Knowledge of the Telecommunications, Legal and Regulatory landscape.
- Proven track record of technical and specialized know-how in the Legal and Regulatory space.
- Previous success in implementing organization wide regulatory and compliance policies.
- Commercial awareness – Understands business implications of decisions and how to align with strategic goals.
- General knowledge of internal control concepts and good knowledge of the business in their field.

- Ability to think innovatively and implement plans and strategies to overcome complex business and industry challenges.
- Proficient knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Must possess exceptional writing skills
- Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
- Ability to think strategically and implement plans and strategies to overcome complex business and industry challenges.
- Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction
