Alliance française Kampala is the main French language center in Uganda. It offers a wide range courses, from standard to personalized. The Alliance française Kampala encourages and favours vibrant relations and close ties between Ugandan people and French language and culture.

 

Job Summary:   This position requires a good knowledge of local cultural networks as well as a good command of French and English Languages. He/She works under the direct supervision of the cultural coordinator, to whom he/she reports regularly.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Cultural department

  • Participate in the development, planning and implementation of the AFK annual cultural program.
  • Act as a point of contact for cultural partners (artists, writers, filmmakers, etc.) and, occasionally, negotiate MOUs and contracts.
  • Participate in the organization and implementation of cultural events on-site, off-site and remotely.
  • Monitor cultural activities in Kampala and map the cultural actors present (artists, writers, intellectuals, social actors, etc.).
  • Strengthen the AFK partnership network (artists, civil society, academics, institutions, NGOs).
  • Assist the cultural coordinator in setting up, drafting and monitoring institutional partnerships projects with the French Embassy, French Institute, the EUNIC Cluster, the Goethe Zentrum Institute, etc.)
  • Regularly prepare and present a review of cultural activities and events to the stakeholders.

Media library

  • Organize and lead various cultural activities, facilitating the discovery of French and French-speaking cultures for AF students, French clubs and partner schools.
  • Assist the media library team in programming and organizing the Talks and Thoughts workshop.

Language Department

  • Participate in the designing of cultural mediation materials for French learners (posters, etc.)
  • In conjunction with the Language department team, develop, plan and implement activities for AF Students

Communication

  • Assist the sponsorship manager in finding annual sponsors for cultural activities or for one-off events (projects, music festival, conference, workshops etc)
  • Participate in the design of communication materials for the promotion of cultural activities, events and products.
  • In conjunction with the communications officer, ensure the promotion of AF activities during events.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Good knowledge of the local cultural environment and its practices.
  • Knowledge of institutional cultural environments is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in the cultural field.
  • French-English bilingualism preferred. At least
  • B2 level for both languages
  • Ability to work in a team and interact with different stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organization and project management.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure.
  • A graphic design skill is a plus (Canva and/or other software)
  • Ability to work late hours at cultural events
  • The Alliance française de Kampala encourages creativity and initiative. The cultural assistant will thus be able to propose his/her own projects for which he/she will have, if accepted, full responsibility under the supervision of the cultural coordinator.
