Job Summary:
Is responsible for maintenance operations within your field of competence.
Ensures that maintenance operations under your responsibility are carried out in accordance with COMPANY’s current safety rules and operating procedures and in accordance with standard industry practice, thereby guaranteeing the quality of maintenance operations, within your field, carried out on site by CONTRACTOR.
Guarantees a good level of availability of the equipment within its responsibility at the production sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
HSE
- Ensures HSE policy fulfillment during your activities;
- Have a good understanding of COMPANY and CONTRACTOR HSE rules;
- Assists CONTRACTOR Senior Electrical Technicians and COMPANY Supervisors on field to spread the HSE policies and to adhere to HSE rules;
- Assist CONTRACTOR Senior Electrical technicians and COMPANY Supervisor with risks analysis for specific intervention;
- Participate to Tool Box talk before intervention;
- Be knowledgeable of electrical habilitation requirements and be certified as required;
- Be aware of area classification, marking for hazardous area IEC/EX/ATEX rules and Ex explosion proof materials;
- Correctly report anomalies, accidents, near misses;
- Knowledge of electrical habilitation requirements and be certified as required;
- Participates to key procedure audits in proactive manner;
- Respects the waste management / Carbon Footprint Reduction policy in force on site, ensuring that all activities performed comply with it, without any exceptions.
Operations
- Performs on site the Maintenance operations which are placed under your responsibility;
- Ensures that COMPANY’s HSE regulations are respected (especially procedures related to Work Permits), as well as approved operating procedures and standard industry practice during performance of maintenance operations placed under your responsibility;
- Ensures that all maintenance and repairs to plant and equipment are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in strict compliance with COMPANY operating procedures and any relevant statutory legislation in order to maintain all such equipment in sound and safe operating condition;
- Provide observations useful for technical reports related to your field;
- Involves actively in the learning process and understand the Transfer of knowledges needs;
- Carries out, at request of senior Electrical technician or COMPANY supervisor any intervention within your field of competence;
- Takes in charge the systems under your responsibility in case of breakdown until correct operation status;
- Prepare for Senior Electrical Technician and COMPANY Supervisor’s review and approval the necessary
- Switching Procedures and if required Electrical Safety Certificate for Systems/Subsystems handed over to O&M;
- Carries out other similar or related duties such as assisting operation group in switching on / off electrical equipment, observing safety rules and regulations, preparing ad hoc reports;
- Monitor and maintain the condition of Electrical Equipment;
- Report faults on electrical equipment by methodically applying appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures;
- Conduct repairs of electrical equipment keeping operational disruption to an absolute minimum. Record accurately all findings and work carried out;
- Report all electrical issues and recommends corrective actions. Ensure and maintain good housekeeping of the electrical workshop.
Engineering understanding:
- Be able to read and use drawings (single line and schematic diagrams), vendor documents, name plate. Be knowledgeable of electrical symbols;
- Possess notions on cable sizing and voltage dropping;
- Be able familiar with a general facilities electrical network philosophy: main generation, emergency generator, switchboard and UPS;
- Have a basic understanding of inter-tripping and interlocking action, load shedding and load sharing modes;
- Have a basic understanding of cathodic protection system.
Equipment:
- Understand working principle of main electrical equipment: voltage & current transformers, electrical motor, alternator, feeder, UPS, battery, speed variator soft starter and graduator, HV/LV switchboard, lighting and heat tracing panel… For those, be aware of their preventive maintenance requirements. Be aware of CBM (thermography) requirement and purpose;
- Understand principles and know the different systems of earthing (IT, TT, TN and DC unearthed system);
- Understand the principle of electrical protection: short circuit, over load, earth fault, reverse power, transformer, alternator and motor specific protections;
- Be knowledgeable on explosion proof materiel and associated requirements;
- For electrician technicians only and for high voltage panel: be able to identify all cubicles and their equipment. Understand interlocking systems in between cubicles;
- For HVAC technicians only, understand working principle of HVAC equipment with different technology (chiller and reciprocating compressor, split units…).
Maintenance:
- Understand preventive, corrective predictive maintenance and maintenance plan concepts;
- Be able to read, interpret and complete work orders….
- Be able on a given and simple preventive work order to prepare tools, identify spare parts and adapted procedure or work instruction.
Practical skills:
- Know how to select and use the available and necessary hand tools for electrician (including special insulated tools);
- Be familiar with construction practice: laying, pulling and connecting cables (using cables glands, terminals blocks, cable lugs, bus bar, sealing compound…);
- Correct use and handling of multimeters, clip on ammeters, Ohmmeter, earth tester (megger), earth leakage kit and recorder.
Maintenance know-how:
- Be able to maintain and troubleshoot small electrical installation like lighting and heat tracing circuit;
- Be able to identify the different types of cables (including ground ones) connect those properly (using lugs) and perform their proper laying (in trenches, on cable tray…). Select, use and install the appropriate cable glands and tags;
- Be able to do preventive maintenance on non-critical equipment: batteries, motor, alternator, breaker, transformer, contactor and switchboard;
- Be able to test and verify alarms, trip and interlock settings;
- Be able to perform insulation and continuity tests;
- LV Electrical equipment: be able to dismantle, replace defective parts, reassemble, reconnect and check the system. Identify all accessories.
Methods
- Keeps a critical eye on current preventive maintenance programs and, if need be, suggests improvements;
- Warns support teams of any recurring problems related to the availability or quality of spare parts and suggests improvements and requests modifications.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Mandatory Trainings:
- Manual Handling Awareness and Emergency Response;
- Electrical Safety for Electrical Safety Personnel; Use of Electrical Personal Protection Equipment
- IEC/Ex/ATEX Equipment in Hazardous Area and for E&I;
- Cat 1 and 3, with Electrical Trainings – Oriented LV
- Electrical Protection Relays
- IEE Wiring Regulations
- HV/LV Operations and Switching;
- Portable Appliance Testing;
- HVAC Training / Refrigeration gas usage and recovery.
Qualifications and Experience required:
- The holder of this position should have the following academic qualifications and experience:
- At least a Bachelor of Science degree or diploma qualified in electrical engineering or equivalent education with specialization in electrical engineering.
- The capacity to acquire ERA certification
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the maintenance of production installations in oil and gas, power production or manufacturing
- At least one year of work experience under the supervision of a Class A holder and holder of class B;
- Knowledge of the process of oil and gas treatment, installations and a thorough knowledge of the equipment used in oil and gas treatment installations is an added advantage
Knowledge of:
- LV and MV switchgear and switching knowledge;
- Ex Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas;
- MV Variable Frequency Drives, AC and DC UPS Systems, LV and HV Switchgear, Power Generation, Power Transformers and Electrical Protection Schemes and Devices;
- Fault diagnostics and repairs on above systems;. working knowledge of diagnostic software and tools;
- Acquaintance in ECS/PMS (Electrical Control Systems/Power Management Systems);
- Pride in your work, ability to maintain good relations with colleagues and others.
- Working language: English.
- Perfectly competent and independent in your field, you must show common sense and organisational ability.
