Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Uganda and the direct supervision of Team Leader- Forestry at FAO Uganda, the Programme Analyst will be in charge of the project activities in the assigned region/cluster working closely and report to the programme specialist on planning, wood harvesting and processing, the programme specialist on SME finance and business development services and the technical advisors.
Technical Focus: The incumbent will focus on mobilization and monitoring project beneficiaries in assigned region /cluster.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support mobilization of project beneficiaries at project level and ensure equal participation and benefit by of men and women.
- In collaboration with project specialists, support mobilization of timber producers at cluster level to form aggregated groups.
- Participate in forest inventories for selected forest plantations and develop yield regulation plans.
- Contribute to trainings of forest owners to develop Operational Harvesting Plans (OHPs) to guide harvesting operations.
- Periodically monitor compartments under harvesting to ensure adherence to safety, sawmill wood quality specifications and effective implementation of Yield Regulation Plans.
- Implement certification schemes for, harvesting contractors, primary and secondary wood processors and traders.
- Support timber grading operations of various wood processors to ensure adherence to the national and regional timber grading standards.
- Organise practical training courses related to wood harvesting, seasoning, and processing (primary and secondary)
- Support business development services in their activities related to promoting access to finance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in forestry, wood science and technology, and wood products technology, social and entrepreneurial forestry, agroforestry, community forestry, or any other related field.
- Five years’ working experience in a commercial forestry environment in Uganda.
- Working knowledge of English at Level C

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with international organization is an asset for the candidate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Selection Criteria:
- Good understanding and knowledge in areas of; wood resource assessment, wood harvesting, sawmilling and wood products manufacturing is an added advantage.
