Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, situated in Matugga, Wakiso district, Uganda, shall produce high-quality medicines across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

 

Job Summary: Dei Group, Plant is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Packaging Supervisor. The Packaging Supervisor will oversee all aspects of packaging operations for wheat products within the facility, ensuring the efficient, accurate, and timely packaging of products to meet quality standards, production goals, and regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising a team of packaging  operators, “ensuring that ‘packaging lines are running smoothly, maintaining quality control, optimising processes, and-addressing issues that arise during the packaging process.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the packaging line(s), ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols. Ensure that production is completed on time and in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of packaging operators and technicians. Provide guidance, coaching, and training to ensure efficient operations and high-quality output. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
  • Monitor the quality of packaged products to ensure compliance with company specifications, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines. Address any deviations or defects in packaging, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure that packaging materials, such as bags, boxes, labels, and seals, are readily available and stored properly. Work with the inventory team to maintain appropriate stock levels and minimize waste. Track material usage and report shortages to the Purchasing or Materials department.
  • Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of packaging machinery and equipment. Ensure that the machines are operating optimally and coordinate with the maintenance team for regular inspections and repairs.
  • Ensure
  • adherence to all safety regulations and procedures, including the proper handling of machinery and equipment, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with OSHA and local safety standards. Lead by example in fostering a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Continuously evaluate packaging processes and identify areas for improvement to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Implement new packaging technologies, equipment, and methodologies as appropriate.
  • Work closely with other departments such as production, quality assurance, maintenance, and logistics to ensure seamless operations. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to coordinate workflows and resolve issues in a timely manner.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • Diploma is required or UACE with relevant certificate in food science, industrial engineering, logistics, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory position within a packaging or manufacturing environment, preferable in the food sector or agricultural sector.

Job knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of packaging processes, materials, and technologies used in the food industry, specifically wheat products. Knowledge of automated packaging lines, scales, sealers, labeling systems, and related machinery.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, GMP, HACP) and the ability to apply these standards to the packaging process. Knowledge of sanitation procedures to prevent contamination and maintain product integrity.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance practices, including the use of inspection tools, packaging specifications, and sampling methods to ensure product quality.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies aimed at reducing waste and improving production efficiency.
  • Language: English level IV (Advanced knowledge) Reading/ Writing/Speaking is required.

Skills and abilities:

Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of operators and technicians. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members and other departments.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues with packaging machinery, production delays, or quality deviations.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and ensure production targets are met. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems for data entry, report generation, and tracking inventory. Familiarity with manufacturing software (e.g., SAP, MES) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail, particularly when reviewing product quality, machine performance, and packaging specifications.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, and working with machinery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with team members, senior management, and other departments. Capable of providing clear instructions and feedback.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, shifting production schedules, and evolving customer requirements in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
