About Organisation:
PALM Corps together with Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Dan Church Aid (DCA) are implementing the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) project. The objective of the URRI programme is to enhance climate resilience for women, men and youth in refugee and host communities and promote inclusive, cohesive and environmentally sustainable development in refugee affected areas. The programme has three outcome areas; 1) Enhanced climate adaptation and resilience for women, men and youth in refugee and host communities through inclusive climate-smart agriculture, 2) Sustainable management of the environment in refugee-affected areas through inclusive interventions leading to enhanced conservation of natural resources, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and productivity, and 3) Enhanced gender equality and women’s empowerment and rights among refugees and host communities in relation to agriculture, climate change adaptation and sustainable management of the environment.
Job Summary: The Agric Officer is responsible for implementation of agriculture activities ensuring that agroecology and landscape management principles are observed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning
- Facilitate planning with the farmer groups i.e., enterprise selection, learning objectives and training activities in line with the principles of resilience design.
- Preparing the workplans, activity requests and procurement plans in collaboration with Community Based Facilitators.
- Participate in consortium review meetings and contribute to M&E and budget working group meetings and present report/issues regarding nutrition programs to the meeting.
Technical support
- Facilitate group formation/strengthening and technical training of project participants on improved CSA using the resilience design (RD) approach.
- Provide training, coaching and mentoring to Community Based Facilitators to ensure quality service delivery to project participants.
- Establish demonstrations in collaboration with CBF and project beneficiaries to show case resilience design technologies and practices
- Organize and facilitate exchange visits amongst participants to promote cross learning and enhance adoption of RD technologies and best practices
- Support in engaging communities and local leaders to enhance access of refugees to land for farming.
- Integrate gender, VSLA and environmental awareness activities in implementation of core agriculture activities.
- Promote digital agriculture extension services among farmers to enhance access to relevant information (market, weather, CSA practices)
- Work collaboratively with the community and MEAL Manager in monitoring, collecting and analyzing data for project quality improvement.
Reporting and assessment
- Prepare and submit timely quality reports (including lessons learnt and success stories as and when stipulated in the project description.
- Take and submit well captioned quality photos of important field activities/events to PALM Corps WhatsApp group.
Coordination and Communication
- Participate in relevant community coordination meetings or platforms to share information, learnings, challenges and best practice with stakeholders.
- Submit quality photos (captioned) of important field activities/events to Communication Officer or PALM Corps WhatsApp group.
- Participate in any other tasks assigned for the attainment of the objectives of project or the mission of PALM Corps.
