Southgate Industries is a leading fruit processing company, located in Kampala Industrial & Business Park (KIBP Namanve). We process pineapples, mangoes, and bananas into puree, concentrate, and other value-added products.
Job Summary: The Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire supply chain operation, from sourcing raw materials to distributing finished products to both local and export markets. The role will focus on procurement, inventory management, logistics, and optimizing supply chain processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Supply Chain Manager will oversee the following functions.
- Procurement and Supplier Management
- Inventory and Warehouse Management
- Logistics and Distribution
Duty/Responsibility
- Develop and manage relationships with suppliers of raw materials (pineapples and other inputs).
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any supply chain disruptions.
- Oversee inventory control to ensure sufficient stock of raw materials and finished goods.
- Work closely with the Warehouse Manager to optimize storage and inventory turnover.
- Coordinate the transportation of raw materials to the plant and finished products to customers.
- Optimize distribution routes to reduce costs and ensure timely delivery of products.
- Ensure compliance with international and local logistics regulations for both exports and local sales.
- Lead and manage the supply chain team, including procurement officers, logistics supervisors, and warehouse staff.
- Ensure continuous training and professional development of the supply chain team.
- Monitor staff performance and ensure they meet key logistics and procurement KPIs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Experience – At least 5-7 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, or procurement, preferably in a food processing or fruit juice manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Food Safety Standards and Regulations – Familiarity with food safety standards like HACCP, ISO 22000, and local regulatory compliance for food transportation and storage
- Educational Requirements: The minimum education level required to perform this job.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field
- A strong foundation in supply chain operations is key.
- Professional Certifications – Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), or Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
- Master’s degree in supply chain management or MBA is desirable
