Job Summary: To complete high quality reviews from planning to reporting and contribute to the global implementation of the Group Compliance Monitoring methodology and processes to ensure the Standard Bank Group and all legal entities are conducting business in accordance with relevant regulations, applicable codes of conduct and within best business practice and drive the development and implementation of a combined assurance approach across all Compliance Assurance Functions. To support and assist the Board and Senior Management to discharge their accountability for compliance risk management and compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory and supervisory requirements. To assist Business Unit (BU) Heads and the embedded business risk management function by providing advisory services to guide BU Heads in discharging their responsibility to comply with applicable statutory, regulatory and supervisory requirements in order to ensure that independent assurance is provided to the Head of Compliance, Board & Regulators that the bank is conducting its business in accordance with relevant laws/regulations, applicable codes of conduct & best business practice.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring the customization, adoption and implementation of a country specific Strategy for AML/CFT and Sanctions risk mitigation
- Responsible for people management and to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
Compliance monitoring
- Active involvement in driving the prioritisation of the Compliance Monitoring plan in responsible portfolios.
- Proactive identification of emerging Compliance risks and threats and timely response to changes in the risk profile and the compliance monitoring plan.
- To monitor compliance with laws and regulations by the organisation and thereby facilitate the establishment of a compliance culture in the organisation that contributes to prudent risk management
- To provide guidance to management in developing remediation programmes that ensures adherence to regulatory requirements
- Provide advice to management, relevant committees, the embedded business and employees to effectively manage compliance issues
- Analyse and identify compliance risks, processes & controls and provide advice to management, relevant committees, within the BU(s) and the embedded business risk management function and employees.
- Actively assist in the completion of the annual Governance Standard Compliance Risk Management review for the respective BU(s).
- Provide input to the respective BU(s) Regulatory Universes and the Bank’s overall Regulatory Universe.
- Facilitate a comprehensive and up to date understanding of the status of compliance and regulatory matters. (including compliance requirements with regards to the Group Compliance Standards)
- Accountable for the establishment and strategic leadership of an adequate and effective AML Anti-Money Laundering & Counter Financing of Terrorism and Sanctions function to effectively advice, guide and service the bank.
- Identify deficiencies in AML/CFT control measures and determine appropriate remedial action plans (including, where necessary, timeframes and responsibilities).
- Develop and update training programmes / manuals pertaining to AML/ CFT and Sanctions and deliver training to Business Units as and when required.
- Act as the liaison person between the Bank and the Financial Intelligence Authority in matters relating to coordination and compliance to anti-money laundering and combating terrorism financing

Experience Required
- Compliance Risk Management
- 5-7 years experience in compliance monitoring, auditing or risk management within a financial services organization or one of the big four auditing forms. Experience in leading a team of Risk and Compliance specialist and working with business unit Heads to deliver on risk mitigation. The role requires an expert in Compliance with a sound knowledge of the relevant regulatory requirements and upcoming developments applicable to a specific business area as well as a solid understanding of banking products and activities.
- 5-7 years overall experience in the Corporate and Investment Banking sector with an understanding of the how the business and products are structured and operate.
