About Organisation:

Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT) was established in 1994, with the major aim of providing long-term reliable support for projects promoting research, conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources in the two parish radius around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) while at the same time promoting the well-being of these communities.

 

Job Summary:   Programme Manager will be responsible for planning and managing the implementation of the Trust’s programmes and projects. The Programme Manager will oversee a team, plan and create budgets and timelines for programmes/projects completion and make sure that the programmes/ projecis are progressing accordingly.

 

Duty Station: The Program Manager will be based in Kabale with frequent travel to the field to oversee implementation of BMCT programs and projects. Specifically, BMCT operates in the Districts of Kanungu, Kisoro and Rubanda.




Key Duties and Responsibilities:  The Project Manager will:

Develop project proposals in line with the strategic objectives of the Trust and solicit for funding

Develop sound M&E tools and implement monitoring and evaluation procedures and identify risk factors that can have undesirable impacts on project/program objectives.

Ensure the establishment and effectiveness of mechanisms for reporting M&E information collected by partners

Ensure programme/project operations comply with internal control policies and legal requirements

As part of the Trust Administrative Unit (TAU), develop institutional linkages with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), local communities, local and international NGOs, local governments at all leveis, and other relevant stakeholders and agencies that are critical to achieving BMCT vision and mission

Assist the Trust Administrator in ensuring that BMCT’s resources *are efficiently and effectively utilised

Assign tasks and supervise programme/project staff to effectively implement planned activities

Work in close liaison with the Community Development Workers and various project implementation agencies, in helping local community groups to identify and execute projects under BMCT.

Take a lead in compiling and developing timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports with support from the Trust Administrator and prepare and/or make presentations to TAU, Local Council Steering Committee (LCSC) and other stakeholders

Take the lead in developing and implementing programme/project budgets, schedules and timelines for BMCT

Deputise and assist the Trust Administrator.

Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Trust Administrator.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

An Honours Bachelor’s degree in environment/natural resources, biological sciences

A postgraduate degree above fields.

Post graduate qualification in project planning and management from a recognized institution is essential

Experience and skills profile

Hands-on experience in training, management and backstopping of development and conservation programmes and projects Hands-on experience in proposal writing and resource mobilization with a proof of having won funding from donors

At least three years’ experience in programme/project management In-depth knowledge of programme/project performance evaluation Proficiency in various programme management software and data analysis packages including, advanced MS Excel, STAT, SPSS, GIS & RS

Ability to manage a team and multi-stakeholders Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Good interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to work under performance-based contracts, minimal supervision and frequent travel in challenging environments.

Age range: Thirty (30) to forty-five (45) years of age
