Southgate Industries is a leading fruit processing company, located in Kampala Industrial & Business Park (KIBP Namanve). We process pineapples, mangoes, and bananas into puree, concentrate, and other value-added products.

 

Job Summary: The Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement, and oversee health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure a safe working environment. The role will focus on regulatory compliance, employee safety training, and risk management to prevent accidents and promote a culture of safety at SGI.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Health and Safety Manager will oversee the following functions

  • Health & Safety Programs
  • Risk Assessment and Management
  • Compliance and Reporting

Duty and Responsibility

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies in line with legal requirements.
  • Lead safety training programs and promote a culture of safety within the company.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations.
  • Maintain safety records and prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience – At least 5-7 years of experience in health and safety roles within a production environment, preferably in food processing or beverage manufacturing
  • Knowledge of food safety standards – Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards, such as HACCP, ISO 22000, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), to ensure safety compliance in food processing

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field with a strong academic foundation in health, safety, or engineering.
  • Professional Certifications in Health and Safety – Certifications such as NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health), or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification is desirable.
