Job Title:  Head of Finance

Southgate Industries is a leading fruit processing company, located in Kampala Industrial & Business Park (KIBP Namanve). We process pineapples, mangoes, and bananas into puree, concentrate, and other value-added products.

Job Summary:   The Head of Finance will lead and manage the financial operations of SGI Fruit Processing Company, ensuring robust financial planning, management, reporting, and compliance. The role will focus on optimizing financial performance, managing financial risks, and providing strategic financial input to the MD, CEO and Board. This position will ensure that SGI maintains sound financial practices to support its production and export operations, while also managing local sales of bottled juice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

The Head of Finance will oversee the following functions:

• Financial Planning and Analysis
• Financial Control and Compliance
• Cost Management
• Cash Flow and Treasury Management

Duty/Responsibility

• Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
• Analyze financial performance and prepare regular reports for the CEO and Board of Directors.
• Conduct variance analysis between actuals and forecasts, recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure all financial transactions comply with local accounting standards and international best practices.
• Manage internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risks.
• Coordinate external audits and ensure all financial statements are accurate and compliant.
• Monitor and control operational costs, implementing cost-saving measures where necessary.
• Work closely with the Plant Manager to optimize production costs.
• Oversee inventory valuation and ensure accurate financial accounting of stock levels.
• Manage cash flow to ensure the company has sufficient liquidity for operations.
• Oversee treasury activities, including managing relationships with banks and financial institutions.
• Handle foreign exchange risks related to exports and international transactions.
• Lead, mentor, and supervise the finance team, including accountants, treasury officers, and credit controllers.
• Ensure the professional development of the finance team through training and performance management.
• Delegate tasks effectively and monitor staff performance against KPIs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• At least 5-7 years of experience in financial roles within a manufacturing or food processing company, preferably in the fruit juice sector.
• Knowledge of financial regulations – Familiarity with local and international accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP) and regulatory frameworks
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field with a strong academic background in financial management
• Professional certification – Qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA
• Master’s degree in finance or business administration (MBA) – desirable
