About Organisation:

Relon Uganda is a Refugee Led Organisation network of Uganda that aims to strengthen the capacity of refugees to engage and respond to the challenges facing refugees and refugee led organizations.  The network was started by four organizations namely Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID), Hope of Children and Women Victims of Violence (HOCW), Hope of Refugee in Action (HRA) and Coburwas International Youth Organization to Transform Africa (CIYOTA).

 

About the Project:

The Geared for Success (GFS) project is a collaborative initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), led by War Child Canada (WCC) and Oxfam in partnership with six community-based organizations (CBOs) across South Sudan and Uganda. This project aims to enhance equitable and inclusive learning outcomes for refugee, internally displaced, and host community children and youth, with a particular focus on girls and adolescent girls.

 

Job Summary:   We are seeking a dynamic and committed Gender Officer to join our team at the Refugee-Led Organization Network (RELON). The Gender Officer will play a key role in implementing the gender-responsive mandates of the GFS project, ensuring that the voices and needs of women and girls are central to all project activities.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs) and CBOs to promote gender-
  • responsive education initiatives that empower girls and adolescent girls, ensuring equitable access to educational resources.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate the performance of the project of RLOs, and CBOs in delivering gender-responsive education and recommend improvements.
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building workshops focused on women’s leadership and advocacy for the right to education.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies that encourage collective action among RLOs and CBOs to advance gender-responsive education.
  • Engage with community members, local leaders, and stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of gender issues in education
  • Assist the M&E team in monitoring and evaluating project progress through a gender lens by utilizing project monitoring tools and contributing to reporting requirements.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of gender equality and women’s rights issues, particularly in the context of education and displacement.
  • Proven experience working with Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) and implementing gender-responsive programs.
  • Proven experience working in emergency humanitarian settings.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage various stakeholders effectively.
  • Capacity to work in complex and challenging environments, with a strong commitment to the project’s goals and outcomes.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages spoken by refugees hosted in Yumbe, Terego, and Obongi is an asset.
