The Women’s International Peace Centre, formerly Isis-WICCE, is a feminist organization founded in 1974 and based in Kampala, Uganda. Our mission is to ignite women’s leadership, amplify their voices, and deepen their impact in recreating peace. Our WEAVE model intersects research (on women’s specific experiences and needs), evidence-based advocacy (to influence national, regional, and international policy and practice), holistic healing (to enable women’s wellbeing and participation in peace processes), skills and movement building to equip WHRDs with necessary skills, build networks and facilitate exchange of strategies to advance women’s leadership for peace.

 

About WSR:

The Women’s Situation Room (WSR) is a non-partisan and women-led African mechanism that promotes peaceful and violence-free electoral processes in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. Its rallying call is “Peace is in our hands” which ensures a non-partisan and impartial platform for women and youth to mitigate election-related conflict, de-escalate tensions, facilitate real-time response to violence incidents, and ensure peaceful elections. The WSR has been replicated in Uganda in 2016 and 2021, and will be active through the electoral processes before, during and after the upcoming electoral period in 2026.

 

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our impact and ensuring that our work and efforts are being reflected and amplified through our platforms and website, we are recruiting a website design expert to improve and develop a new website that will serve as a hub for information, resources, and community engagement.

 

Job Summary:   The primary objective of the assignment is to design, develop, and launch a fully functional, responsive, and user-friendly website that meets the needs of Women’s Situation Room – Uganda’s vision.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The website developer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Conducting a needs assessment to understand the WSR’s requirements.
  • Designing the website layout and structure.
  • Developing the website using appropriate technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CMS platforms).
  • Ensuring the website is responsive and mobile-friendly.
  • Integrating necessary features such as contact forms, donation portals, event calendars, WSR Uganda vision page, tools pages, our news page, and social media links (all in separate links).
  • Testing the website for functionality, performance, and security.
  • Offering ongoing support and maintenance for 1 year period.
  • Coordinating with WSR Communications team about any adjustments & testing of the website new features before launching in a timely manner
  • Providing a presentation and a chart about the new features to WSR Management & Eminent Women
  • Providing a written guide on how to use the new features

 

Deliverables

  • The developer is expected to deliver the following:
  • A detailed project plan with timelines and key milestones
  • Wireframes and design mockups.
  • A fully functional and tested website.
  • Documentation and user manuals.
  • Training for the organization’s staff (especially the key Communications focal points) on how to manage and update the website, including using any content management systems or tools integrated into the platform.
  • A maintenance plan and post-launch support for 1 year.

 




Timeline

  • The project is expected to be completed within two (2) months as follows:
  • Project kick-off – An inception report will be submitted.
  • Design phase – A site map will be shared
  • Development phase – Weekly reports will be submitted to the Communications teams.
  • Testing phase – A test link will be shared for periodic review of progress.
  • Launch date
  • Post-launch support period

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in web development frameworks (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP) and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) are a plus.
  • Proven experience in website development, including using graphic design to create visual elements for the website.
  • Proficiency in web development languages and tools, including front-end and back-end
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices to improve site visibility and ranking.
  • Demonstrated ability through a portfolio of previous work that showcase innovative design and functionality.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Availability to commit the required time for project meetings, development phases, and training sessions.
