DFCU Bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, the role holder will be responsible for supporting the function in driving value creation, managing the business performance reporting of the domain to support the delivery of business financial targets and acting as points of contact for Business people covering the function and to provide and interpret financial information to all stakeholders of the business for informed decision making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Partnering
- Assemble and analyze Retail data, macro, Industry, and market-specific data, into information and make it available to management in a timely fashion for strategic, tactical, and operational requirements.
- In charge of reviewing and challenging retail capital investment projects to ensure viability and consistency with the business unit and overall bank strategy, monitoring post-implementation of the projects to deliver committed benefits.
- Get involved in the budgeting and forecasting process for the Retail domain providing analytical support for drivers and processes of the plans. This involves the provision of historical individual and business performance facts necessary for objective performance goal setting that drives Retail Business performance.
- Provide monthly detailed analysis of actual achievements against budgets/forecasts both at the individual (branch managers/relationship managers) and segment levels. This involves clear articulation of NII and NFI mover for price, volume, product mix and currency depicting the trend and forward-looking.
- Provide detailed monthly analysis on channel performance including profitability analysis for Branches, Card acquiring (ATM, debit cards, Credit cards), Agency Banking, and Bancassurance among others
- Design models for tracking the cost of serving customers at different Retail channels to drive efficiency and value for money. This includes the determination of cost per transaction, cost per customer served, cost per revenue generated etc. at each channel.
- Provide leadership in driving for correct customer segmentation in different systems to aid in effective product performance analysis.
- Every month, provide product performance reports with insights on performance drivers and how to spur growth. It also includes Deposit/loan concentration tracks, Top 20, and Top 50 customers/schemes.
- Carry out Revenue Assurance for Retail on a monthly to ensure income leakage is managed. This involves the management of data integrity and accuracy from various reporting systems, application of approved product tariffs etc.
Drive for Digital
- Drive for real-time predictive analytics to balance intuitive decision-making and data-driven insights to monitor product performance, how to better serve customers, streamline operations, manage risks and ultimately drive strategic performance. This involves the utilization of interactive data visualization tools like Power BI etc that enable business insights to be shared in a format that is easily understood by decision-makers, in turn enabling better, faster operational and strategic decision-making. Below are some of the data-driven reports to provide;
- Accounts and cards flow into dormancy, active accounts, and the number of accounts opened daily.
- Funded and non-funded accounts report with trend analysis.
- Payment transactions volume and value (EFT, RTGs, school fees etc) by channel.
- Daily Customer visit per channel with volume and value.
- Active debit cards, accounts without debit cards, debits issued daily, Non-dfcu cards used on our channels.
- Total credit card stock by activity status, exposure and utilization.
- ATM transactions by type and location with uptime analysis.
- Agency Banking transactions by type with uptime analysis.
- Retail Internet banking transactions by type with uptime and customer adoption analysis.
Stakeholder Management
- Ensure effective and excellent communication and working relationships with colleagues in the department and the bank in general.
- Ensure the process of planning/forecasting and reporting is fully coordinated and the Business Head owns the numbers before reporting to Management and or the Centre.
- Ensure there is alignment on all financial reports for the Retail Business across different stakeholders including the Retail chief, CFO/Executive Director, and Managing Director especially during the weekly catch-up meetings and other function heads like Credit, legal, compliance etc. The key measure of success is the level of forecasting accuracy and timely communication.

- Deputize for the Head of FP&A when required.
- Provide honest, direct and constructive feedback to fellow team members.
- Share knowledge experience and best practices with team members and other Finance colleagues.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting and/or Finance.
- Professional qualification in Accounting such as ACCA, and CPA with a strong accounting background.
- Three years of experience in a similar role.
- Technical and practical skills in accounting and Finance.
- In-depth understanding of short-, medium- and long-term strategies, goals and objectives setting.
- Detailed knowledge of Management Accounting with high levels of financial presentation skills including commentary writing to Board, Management etc.
- Detailed understanding of Managing for Value reporting.
- An appreciation of the external economic, political, legal and regulatory environment and their impact on the business.
- Strong Computer skills and other Analytical tools.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven organisational skills.
- Planning and organisation skills.
- Forward Thinking.
- Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions.
- Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of accounting technical issues (International Accounting Standards/IFRS, etc).

- Ability to work well under pressure, working accurately with attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
