Southgate Industries is a leading fruit processing company, located in Kampala Industrial & Business Park (KIBP Namanve). We process pineapples, mangoes, and bananas into puree, concentrate, and other value-added products.

Job Summary: The Farmer Liaison Officer is responsible for mobilising and working closely with farmers to ensure the timely and consistent delivery of high-quality raw materials, primarily pineapples and mangoes, to SGI’s collection centres. The role involves identifying farmers with best agricultural practices, supporting them in achieving organic certification, and ensuring their produce meets the company’s price and quality requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The Farmer Liaison Officer is responsible for:

• Farmer Mobilization and Raw Material Sourcing
• Farmer Relations and Advising
• Quality Control and Price Matching
• Organic Certification Support
• Market and Variety Identification
• Reporting and Coordination

Duty/Responsibility

• Mobilize farmers to deliver their produce (pineapples, mangoes) to SGI collection centres promptly.
• Identify farms with ready-to-deliver produce and facilitate the logistics of raw material collection.
• Identify farmers with best agricultural practices and advise others on how to adopt these practices.
• Foster strong relationships with farmers to maintain a reliable supply chain for raw materials.
• Identify and work with farmers who meet the company’s quality and price range requirements for raw materials.
• Ensure the farmers understand and meet the company’s standards for produce variety and quality.
• Assist farmers in understanding and complying with organic certification procedures and practices.
• Provide ongoing support to help farmers improve their cultivation methods in line with certification standards
• Locate farmers with specific produce varieties required by SGI and mobilize them to become suppliers.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of farmers, including their production capacity, practices, and compliance with company standards.
• Provide regular updates to the Supply Chain Manager on farmer mobilization efforts, raw material quality, and certification progress.
• Collaborate with the procurement and logistics teams to ensure the smooth delivery of produce from farms to collection centres

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Experience in IT Support – At least 2-3 years of experience working directly with farmers or in agricultural supply chain management

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or related fields.

Additional skills:

• Strong knowledge of organic certification processes and best agricultural practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with farmers.
• Familiarity with the fruit processing industry, particularly pineapple and mango cultivation, is an added advantage.
• Willingness to travel to rural areas and work with a wide variety of stakeholders
