Alight provides shelter, clean water and sanitation, health care, skills training, microcredit education, protection to help survivors of war and natural disasters to rebuild their lives with dignity, health care, security and self-sufficiency.
Job Summary: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for pushing forward the design and implementation of the proposed Alight Uganda Communication strategy and for further development of communications work (both internal and external). He/She will manage our social media platforms, Newsletters, and external communications with journalists, academics, and researchers, He/She will be responsible in creating content with a supportive role regarding fundraising. The communications Coordinator will liaise with the Alight Global Communications team to make sure that the materials developed are aligned with Alight branding requirements. The position will work closely with other members of the Senior Management Team, Technical Coordinators, Program Coordinator for Quality and Learning. The role is based in Kampala with travel to program sites across Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications
Under the guidance of the Donor Engagement Lead and Uganda Leadership Team, define the intentional Communications strategy for Alight Uganda, lead strategy implementation in the field and advise and support colleagues in implementing the strategy.
Produce high quality internal communication materials, including regular updates, presentations, newsletters, one/two-pagers, brochures, and pamphlets, to increase collaborations across field sites and sectors
Promote a principled approach to communications on Uganda among relevant internal stakeholders and ensure that external messaging is evidence-based and driven by field realities
Provide trainings on communications to field staff and develop the capacity of national staff to document impactful interventions for internal and external sharing.
Provide other communications support to the program as needed
Branding and Visibility of Alight Uganda
Manage Alight Uganda monthly Newsletters, Social Media handles, Creating social media content such as documentaries, live videos, infographics, Articles etc
Oversee the production of high-quality written and visual content, ensuring consistency in showcasing work done on Global platforms and adherence to brand guidelines.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media outlets, government agencies, partner organizations, and community leaders, to enhance the organization’s visibility and influence
Manage special events, campaigns, and contribute to fundraising activities, as needed.
Contribute to the overall success of Alight Uganda Enterprises by actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights and ideas, and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
Support graphic design requests, video editing, create event content and organize an ALIGHT photobank on SharePoint.
Follow up on power points and briefs being developed at the field level and provide timely feedback on the quality and presentation of data by teams.
Work closely with the MEL team on creation of briefs and external facing reports/ documents to ensure that these are to the quality expected for external dissemination i.e., assessment/ evaluation reports, research briefs, data visualization for briefs, fact sheets, evidence/ impact for pitch decks etc
Fundraising
Providing administrative support to bids when required e.g., gathering contributions for staff, partners and associates, preparing CVs, compiling due diligence documents etc.
Continuously gathering and assimilating knowledge on funders who have funded Alight work into Project briefs and fact sheets for existing donors.
Coordinate fundraising campaigns at the country level to raise funds under corporate social responsibility
Support the DEL in organizing Pitch decks for donors.
Conduct a robust stakeholder mapping and maintain an updated contact list of key target donors and partners in-country, including media and private sector.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in mass communication, or any related field from an accredited university including a component on utilizing data.
Minimum of five (5) years working experience in Uganda.
Experience in Digital communication, website, and social media content management
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout, and design experience, including the ability to present concepts verbally.
Fluent in the English language
Experience in Corporate Fundraising for at least 3years
Possess strong organizational, summarizing and report writing skills.
Experience working in the public and private sectors is highly preferable.
Solid experience in creating literature reviews, summarizing complex information and producing advocacy materials.
Some experience in supporting successful partnership building/stakeholder awareness initiatives.
Some experience working with members of governments, private sector companies, NGOs and/or multilateral organizations.
