Job Summary: The communications officer will primarily lead the development of learning products and advise on knowledge translation platforms for the learning products. The communications officer in partnership with EPI National and sub-National stake holders and the consortium will develop learning products that are tailored to the country’s priorities to facilitate the use of evidence through knowledge creation and translation activities. This is through establishing a feedback loop with all EPI stakeholders through different platforms such as conferences, webinars, meetings, and collaboratives. A wide range of learning products will be developed in the form of print materials. These may include, but not limited to evidence briefs, factsheets, abstracts, video and, learning briefs. He/she will develop a website specifically for the Learning Hub products as part of our knowledge management approach. Throughout the development and production processes, all learning products will undergo a series of thorough reviews by technical resource persons, including representatives of Gavi, to ensure they are of adequate quality and are communicating for impact. Some learning products will be subjected to validation and pre-testing processes with representatives of target audiences to assure quality and conformity with acceptable local standards. The processes will allow mid-course corrections by the product development teams as a quality assurance measure.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage with all the consortium organizational partners to identify what strategies or approaches will be most effective in engaging key immunization stakeholders throughout the knowledge translation (KT) process to capture perspectives, needs and opportunities towards reaching ZD, UI & Missed Communities
- Attend National and sub national meetings to identify or disseminate all the targeted knowledge on zero dose
- Identify the Knowledge to be translated, set KT goals and work along with the graphics designer to develop learning products tailored to different communities at National and Sub National level.
- Work with the consortium partners to assess awareness and knowledge and the Needs and Context of reaching ZD, UI & Missed Communities using indicators or metrics
- Determine and develop relevant actionable and clear key learning products (not limited to fact sheets, brochures and evidence briefs) from different consortium research findings and recommendations for specific target audience
- Work with the research associate to document use of evidence findings and recommendations generated by LH to inform decisions on ZD and UI children
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism, is required. A master’s degree in business administration, Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Health or related field is an added advantage
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in communications within public health is required
- Proven success at developing and executing strategic communications strategies and deploying and leveraging various media and digital communication channels and tactics to reach and engage key audiences, including media, policymakers, and influencers
- Demonstrated experience in developing compelling communications content relevant to immunization and public health in general
- Demonstrated experience in crisis communication
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Diplomacy and tact as an advisor to senior executives and as an external representative to partners and audiences in visible roles and settings
- Experience providing communications training and capacity building of colleagues
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
- Adept at working in a team and multi-stakeholder environment
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
