Scope of Work for Engaging the Services of a Consulting Coffee Logistics Officer

 

Overview

Background

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Uganda wants to hire the services of a consulting Coffee Logistics Officer for a research project on coffee value chains. The coffee collected during the research activities is to be disposed of on a weekly basis. The consultant will be in charge of coordinating and receiving coffee from the study area (Kasese) to Kampala and managing coffee sales to exporters in Kampala by working closely with research team members.

 

Scope

The consultant will work in close collaboration with the IPA Research Associate and the Principal Investigators. The Research Associate is responsible for the successful implementation of the project to which the Consultant is assigned. The Consultant maintains open communication with the Research Associate and the Principal Investigators, reporting regularly on work progress and any potential problems as well as following their guidelines for effective implementation of the logistics of coffee transportation and transactions from Kasese to Kampala.

 

Objectives: The objective of this consultancy is to

  • Coordinate and receive coffee from the study area (Kasese) to Kampala by working closely with the IPA field team in Kasese and in particular the IPA Research Associate and an officer assigned to managing logistics in Kasese.
  • Manage coffee sales to exporters in Kampala by working closely with research team members.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards during the transportation and sale of coffee.

Tasks

  • Preparation & planning with logistics officer in Kasese, including transportation logistics and record keeping.
  • Preparation & planning of logistics in Kampala, including facilitation of collecting quotes, transportation logistics, and record keeping.
  • Maintain accurate records of coffee transactions, transportation schedules, and logistics costs.

 

Deliverables

Specify the expected deliverables / work products

  • Detailed Logistics Plan
  • Weekly Coffee Transfer Report
  • Final Project Report

 

Contract period: To start as soon as possible and ending December 31st 2024

 




Qualifications and experience Required:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Statistics, Development Studies, Economics, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is a MUST.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work effectively over email and phone
  • Flexible, self-motivating and team player.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with stakeholders (PIs and partner organizations).
  • Demonstrated commitment to IPA’s high standards of data quality.
