Job Summary: DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Climate and Environment Coordinator.
The overall purpose of the role:
The Climate and Environment Co-ordinator is part of the DRC led consortium’s URRI Programme Co-ordination Unit and will strengthen climate adaptation, resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-induced impacts across the URRI project in the six districts of Terego, Madi-Okollo, Yumbe, Koboko, Obangi and Moyo. The objective of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) programme is to enhance climate resilience for women, men and youth in refugee and host communities and promote inclusive, cohesive and environmentally sustainable development in refugee affected areas aligned with local priorities.
The Climate and Environment Co-ordinator will deliver technical capacity building and support programme design across the consortium partners (5) seeking to scale, improve and replicate regenerative resilience initiatives. The role will support consortium wide learning and provide technical guidance and training for relevant stakeholders.
You will work in close collaboration with relevant technical and programme leads and support DRC’s Go Green initiative which also comprises a global Environmental advisor and two other advisors on respectively climate mainstreaming and mitigation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical support and quality assurance
Provide technical support for URRI consortia partner staff and other key stakeholders on regenerative resilience, climate adaptation and environment.
Strengthen technical capacities through online, in-person, site-based trainings and demonstrations to scale-up, improve and expand climate adaptation, environment and resilience initiatives. Technical fields may include a broad range: nature-based solutions, permaculture, regenerative and circular resilience, climate-smart agriculture, groundwater recharge and more.
Support URRI project design and programme adaptation for climate adaptation, resilience and environment (in above-mentioned technical fields), including by supporting development of key results indicators.
Deliver technical resources, guidance and tools for climate adaptation and resilience across the consortia.
Support documentation and replication of good practices across URRI and support the development of communication materials on the same.
Resources and learning
Establish and co-facilitate a Community of Practice comprising URRI partners and actively coordinate and plan with the relevant team members.
Develop and maintain a roster of technical experts (consultants) in relevant fields related to climate adaptation, environment and resilience.
Contribute to learning and evidence-building on climate adaptation and resilience, including by collecting and sharing good practice.
Contribute to consortia awareness raising and internal communication.
Coordinate with the climate and environmental mainstreaming lead.
Strategy and policy
Provide support to business development, fundraising and partnership development in on the above technical topics.
Build partnerships, incl. in support of evidence-building, advocacy and learning.
Represent in URRI in relevant forums and contribute to key advocacy messages related to climate and environment.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
To be successful in this role we expect you to have the Ability to establish collaborative working relationships across district locations, have excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and facilitation. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
An academic degree in climate adaptation and resilience, environment or in any other closely related area (social sciences or a relevant technical field)
6 years of experience in a similar role
Strong knowledge of climate change and environment issues in West Nile, Uganda
Strong technical background in regenerative resilience and/or climate adaptation methods and practices, in one or more specific areas for example circular design, permaculture, regenerative design, agroecology, natural resource management or other.
Ability to assess climate risks, develop recommendations and provide technical support for programming to improve resilience and support climate adaptation.
Ability to develop and deliver technical trainings (in one or more relevant technical fields, see above).
Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a small team, and to form close working relationships with a diverse range of multi-cultural colleagues.
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
Able and willing to travel within West Nile, Uganda and the region as relevant.
Strong commitment to gender equality.

Strong track record of mobilizing donor support
Knowledge / experience in conflict sensitivity and/or conflict resolution
Experience using Climate vulnerability assessments (CVA) for programme design and implementation
Experience with forecast-based and/or climate early warning programming
Experience in participatory project design with communities
A good team player
Excellent analytical and negation skills
Proven commitment to accountability practices
Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work with limited supervision
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
