Company Overview
The Company is a rapidly growing social enterprise in Uganda sourcing specialty cacao for export and producing bean to bar chocolate at origin. Working with over 5,000 certified organic smallholder farmers, our mission is to sustainably increase incomes and reduce risk for our suppliers while positively impacting the community and environment surrounding our operations. We aim to provide chocolate makers and consumers in East Africa and around the world with the highest quality, transparently sourced and fully traceable Ugandan cocoa products.
Job Summary: The position is a full-time, in-country based at the company’s office reporting to the Field and Branch Managers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The core responsibilities include:
- Develop and revamp LTC Farmer training curriculum to address farmer needs
- Implement LTF Farmer training programs on organic practices, farming as a business, and agroforestry
- Regularly visit farms to provide reports on harvest status/projections, agronomy issues, and farmer-related concerns
- Organize and coordinate supply and distribution of agroforestry tree seedlings from either the nurseries or appointed partner suppliers in company regions of operation
- Establish Latitude agroforestry demonstration farms throughout organic regions
- Support implementation or Organic certification activities and ensure adherence to program requirements
- Coordinate sensitization, trainings and roll out of carbon credits programs
- Work with Data team to support various data collection and farm inspection activities to measure effectiveness of farmer trainings and other programs
- Develop and implement biodiversity plan for measurement and improvement of biodiversity amongst Latitude farmers.
- Mobilize and support farmers to deliver cocoa
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from reputable university in related field
- Prior experience implementing agro-forestry or carbon credit projects
- Experience training and organizing farmers
- Fluent spoken and written English (required)
- Willingness and ability to ride a motorbike (required)
- High proficiency in MS Excel and Office (required)
- Knowledge of cocoa or coffee agronomy, and certification standards (Organic, Fair Trade, and UTZ)
- Excellent communication skills via email, phone, and report writing
- Willingness to live and work in rural area for extended periods
