Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.

 

Job Summary:   The Shop Assistant is Responsible for actively participating in the Shop’s operations from stock receipt, weighing, icing, housekeeping, preparing customer orders, and promoting good customer relations.

 

The purpose is to ensure precision, quality, and efficiency at the Shop, contributing to the overall sales targets and customer service, while adhering to safety and hygiene standards.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the overall performance of the shop by regularly coming up with initiatives to drive sales growth for the shop and actively engaging in activities designed to grow sales at the shop.
  • Drive & deliver excellent customer service in every aspect of the shop, including store appearance, display of fish, stock ordering, SKU layout, and selling.
  • Ensures customer complaints are followed up and/or escalated, and that satisfactory solutions are obtained for both the customer and Yalelo.
  • Receive stock supplies and organize and maintain inventory by ensuring fridges are always stocked to meet customer needs.
  • Perform quality assurance checks of fish regularly and ensure proper handling, storage, processing, and packing. Enforce the use of proper icing techniques throughout the process to maintain the freshness of the fish. Be the chief custodian and enforcer of the YU red stock SOP in the shop.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of fish products, including new offers, and share that knowledge with customers and other colleagues in a confident manner.
  • Take and prepare customer orders, including packing and entering transactions into the POS.
  • Responsible for banking sales revenues, including making cash reconciliations, and filling change requirements.
  • Assist the shop supervisor in handling cash register and transactions including sales capturing in the POS, correct pricing, inventory control and receipting to customers, and end-of-day stock reconciliations.
  • Maintain outstanding hygiene standards for all store facilities and equipment to meet established food safety guidelines, thus ensuring cleanliness and neatness at all times.
  • Perform other administrative tasks to support the smooth operations of the shop, including the timely submission of reports.
  • Follow Health and safety guidelines, reporting any concerns or incidents to the Supervisor or other concerned personnel.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the shop premises and equipment like fridges, POS, and weighing scales to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Adhere to Workstream procedures, Retail SOPs, and Policies to ensure compliance.
  • Attend scheduled training for knowledge enhancement and skill development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Achievement of monthly sales target set for the shop.
  • Achievement of monthly stock loss target of 0.5%.
  • Product Safety and Excellent customer service and customer satisfaction.
  • Minimal customer complaints.
  • Hygienic standards maintained at all times.
  • Zero major and fatal safety incidents.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Diploma or its equivalent in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Must have attained at least a Credit in Mathematics at UCE and a Principal Pass in Economics or Entrepreneurship Education at UACE.
  • 2 years’ experience in fish processing/handling or a related field is advantageous.

Skills & abilities:

  • Customer management abilities and good Customer care skills.
  • Good grasp of the English Language and local languages.
  • Must be organized and accurate.
  • Must be willing to work long hours when required.
  • Be able to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and commitment to maintaining hygiene standards.
  • Attention to detail in handling, sorting, grading, and packing fish.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different processing techniques.
  • Good communication skills and a positive work attitude.

 

Working conditions: The position requires handling weights, standing for extended periods, and operating in a dynamic, and fast-paced environment. There will be exposure to fish odour, making it essential to use the provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow workflow instructions.
