About the Company:

Avanti Energy Services Limited (Avanti) is a Ugandan national company, which engages in providing services to the upstream oil and gas production industry within Uganda. Avanti was awarded a contract by a major oil and gas service company to source and employ in excess of 100 Ugandan engineers, technicians, operators and laborers to support their oil drilling operations within Uganda.

 

Job Summary:   The Staffing and Contracts Manager will be responsible for all contracts administration as well as ensuring that contracts meet legal requirements and align with the company goals. As an overseer of all aspects of human resources practices and processes, will be responsible for developing HR strategies and providing sound advice to senior management on all related subjects. Providing practical, consistent, and proactive support, direction and advice to HR staff and other section managers on HR procedure, policy, best practice, employment rewards, benefits, and legislation to facilitate in achieving the objectives and targets of the organization.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Contracts Management

  • Craft, evaluate, negotiate and execute a wide variety of different contracts covering a range of clients’ transactions.
  • Create and maintain relationships with clients and serve as the singular point of contact for matters concerning contracts.
  • Maintain records for correspondence and documentation in relation to established contracts and those in progress.
  • Communicate and present information to stakeholders about all contract-related matters.
  • Monitor contracts and move forward with close-out, extension or renewal according to what’s best for the company.
  • Solve any contract-related problems that may arise with other parties and internally with the company.

Manpower planning

  • Ensure that the manpower strength for both the company and its clients, approved by management is maintained and a report on the same is presented to management on a monthly basis.
  • Check, analyze and advice management on new clients’ needs, redundant positions on monthly basis reporting.

Training and development

  • Follow up and ensure that the clients’ training planner is timely developed and fully implemented.
  • Ensure that post evaluation training reports are developed and submitted to management on a quarterly basis.
  • Real impact on bottom line should be seen and training must be needs based unless developing for succession planning or new technology.

Recruitment, selection, placement and exit

  • In liaison with the Clients, ensure recruitment SOP is followed
  • Ensure jobs are advertised properly and that process owners are part of the shortlisting exercise, there is a balanced regional representation of staff to be recruited and background checks are conducted
  • Ensure that all staff / contractors recruited are fully oriented / inducted.
  • Analyze turnover trends, update management and advise on the way forward.
  • Ensure salary structures are in-line with prevailing market trends and are attractive to potential candidates.

Employee relations and welfare

  • Ensure that disciplinary cases are reduced by conducting behavioral / discipline change
  • sessions and one on one staff / contractor counseling sessions.
  • Ensure that all welfare issues are timely attended to like meals, transport, medical and accommodation among others.
  • Ensure that contractors concerns, demands, grievances are fully addressed and feedback is given accordingly.

Salary payments and employee benefits

  • Follow up with the Clients and ensure that contractors’ and other staff salaries are timely paid
  • Ensure that contractors’ and other staff local service tax and other statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF) are paid accordingly

General duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across the organization.
  • Nurture a positive working environment.
  • Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics.
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration or a related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Proven 10-15 years’ working experience in a similar role preferably in Oil & Gas Industry or a manufacturing set up

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to influence and persuade senior management level.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving skills.
  • Articulate communicator and ability to interpret and explain written and statistical data to a wide range of audiences.
  • High standard of attention to detail.
  • Solid commitment to clients or employee service.
  • Expert Microsoft Office skills like Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work.
  • People oriented and results driven.
  • Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics.
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases.
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
