Job Summary: The Senior Coordinator Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) is responsible for setting up projects in MHPSS in the Country. The Coordinator shall ensure quality implementation of MHPSS all War Child areas of operations both at refugee & host districts levels. The coordinator shall be responsible for training staff, partners and stakeholders on all aspects of MHPSS including monitoring and coaching. In addition to this you will also be involved in following:

  • Support in the development of new project proposals.
  • Draft internal and external programme reports.
  • Coordination with agencies focusing their programming on MHPSS.
  • Strengthen MHMHPSS working group in Uganda.
  • Contribute to the development of a localisation hub for MHPSS evidenced based methodologies
  • Proactively participate in the development of tools on MHPSS.

 

The position may require support to countries in the region in the field of MHPSS (e.g. training, technical advise)

 

Objectives of the job

  • Supports the start- up of new projects focused on MHPSS.
  • Ensures quality of the implementation and proper use of WCH methodology.
  • Trains, coaches, and builds capacity of staff and local partners in proper implementation of the programme.
  • Ensures psychosocial support activities are monitored and evaluated.
  • Supports in the writing of programme proposals and reports.

 

Essential functional relations

The Senior Coordinator MHMHPSS reports directly to the Programme development and Quality Manager

 

She/he works closely with the M&E Coordinator and project staff in the project areas.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Project implementation
  • Implements and monitors quality standards for the MHPSS programs status, methods used and results achieved.
  • Supports roll out of MHPSS activities, tools and checklists.
  • Remains up to date based on WC programming practice and international standards and guidelines.
  • Contributes to internal and external reporting and annual plans.
Programme Development
  • Contributes in writing concept notes and project proposals on MHPSS.
  • Contributes in the further development of MHPSS interventions in collaboration with MHPSS specialist based in HQ.
  • Proactively pursues the idea of MHPSS localisation hub in Uganda.
Trainings and Capacity building
  • Provides ongoing support, guidance and advice to program staff in relation to MHPSS.
  • Identifies specific training needs and ensures training, coaching and support is offered to the project staff and volunteers in order to build their capacity in MHPSS.
  • Promotes professional learning through the development and review of individual plans for training staff.
  • Upon request organizes trainings for partners in Uganda and neighbouring countries.
Coordination and representation
  • Liaises with other technical counterparts in the field of MHPSS.
  • Strengthens MHPSS working group in Uganda.
  • Supports advocacy work on MHPSS.
  • Represents WCH externally, in relevant platforms/networks focused on MHPSS themes or on field level.

Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor in line with job description and the fulfillment of the tasks.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Post graduate diploma/Degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or Social Development or any other relate field.
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or Social Development or any other relate field is desired.
  • Specialist knowledge of current principles and practices of psychosocial support and child protection programming with children in (post)conflict areas.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative monitoring & evaluation tools.
  • Minimum 5 years (I) NGO work in developing countries / conflict areas, preferably with children.
  • Minimum 4 years in MHPSS programming in (post)conflict areas.
  • Minimum 4 years in staff capacity building and experience in providing trainings.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • Experience of working in education sector in Uganda is desirable.
  • Experience in implementing interventions at Level 3 & 4 of the MHPSS pyramid is desirable.
Skills
  • Strong (creative/interactive) training skills.
  • Strong supervision, coaching and communication skills.
  • Able to quickly identify needs / gaps and work towards solutions.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Result-oriented.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly.
