About Organisation:

The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is an indigenous medical organization that was established in 1991 as a limited liability not-for-profit Joint-venture between the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Defense and Makerere University Medical School (now Makerere University College of Health Sciences). JCRC is located on plot 101 Lubowa Hill Off Entebbe Road P.O. Box 10005 Kampala.

 

Job Summary:   The successful candidate will manage a clinical research project composed of 10 consortium partners, to implement activities and specific responsibilities which will ensure that the research project is implemented according to sound scientific, ethical, regulatory, and financial standards.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To initiate development and/or participate in design and dissemination of project management tools, that will support partners in timely implementation of project activities within the given timelines.
  • To organize and take lead during discussions with all partners for project-related activities that include but not limited to; trainings, protocol writing, protocol submissions and amendments, meetings/conference calls, capacity building initiatives, and community engagement events.
  • To assess sites for research implementation and data management capacity, and work with sites for timely handling of any identified challenges.
  • To plan and implement site initiation visits for all assessed clinical research sites, and ensure timely protocol implementation within project timelines.
  • To organize project meetings (planning, preparation, logistics, minutes, etc) and ensure that agreed decisions and action items from the meetings are followed through to completion or logical conclusion.
  • To be the lead liaison between all the consortium partners to ensure effective communication across work package leads and site-specific investigators, trial managers, and technical staff.
  • To maintain an up-to-date list of all individuals working on the project across all sites.
  • To coordinate technical and financial report writing and submission, project monitoring and evaluation, are done within project and sponsor timelines. This should highlight performance and quality indicators across all sites.
  • To coordinate writing and solicit financial reports from all project partners, consolidate and match expenses against budgetary allocations for onward reporting to the sponsor.
  • To ensure that site expenditure and financial reporting are as per the sponsor’s Financial Guidelines and Policies.
  • To receive, view, reconsolidate and submit to the funder annual technical reports from all the partners, ensuring that these are submitted as per the Grant Agreement and timelines.
  • To maintain all records from all partners including regulatory documents relevant to the implementation of the project especially trial approval records.
  • To develop and keep an up-to-date Project Management Plan and Risk Register for the project.
  • To ensure that all partners comply with the effected Grant Agreement guidelines




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Formal education and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a medical-related discipline (nursing, medicine, pharmacy, laboratory technology), and a masters’ degree in any medical-related field (public health, clinical trials, health services research), or management (project planning and management, health care management, business administration).

Professional and Management Experience:

  • At least 5- years of experience in managing multi-site or multi-country clinical trials or research projects.
  • Experience in protocol design, coordinating multi-country protocol submissions, and product or supplies shipments.
  • Project planning and management, across the life cycle of a clinical trial.
  • Experience in financial management of a research project is an added advantage.
  • Experience in data management is of added advantage.

Additional Knowledge:

  • Responsible conduct of research and human subject’s protection.
