About the Company:

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a Public Limited Company wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda, and holds the following operational licenses. System Operator, Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power Supply, Import and Export of Power and; Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and operation of the Optic Fibre). Our Vision is: “Electricity Transmission for sustainability for sustainability Development.”

 

Job Summary:   To ensure that national power transmission grid planning is carried out based on best international practice in a commercial environment.




Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare short-, medium- and long-term grid development plans for power evacuation, grid reinforcements, grid extensions and regional interconnections; monitor the capacity of the network to cope with load growth and carry out power system studies so as to predict the network behaviour.

Carry out, develop and review project feasibility studies, ESIA&RAP Studies, detailed designs, project financial & economic viability, technical specifications, all costs for proposed transmission and substation projects in preparation for implementation and seek respective budgetary approval.

Evaluate the grid Infrastructure proposed transmission line routes, substation sites, line diversions, right of way and approaches to respective sites, and develop strip maps for implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan, compensation and land acquisition by UETCL and respective ESMP. In addition to maintaining a functional and updated GIS platform for existing and future grid infrastructure.

Prepare and issue drawings and plans for substations and transmission lines as per site requirements. Maintain an updated set of as-built drawings for reference.

Liaise with external stakeholders for sector wide integrated planning, regional integration planning and securing of financing for identified system projects.

Prepare, control and manage the section budget

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is an added advantage.

Specialized training in Electrical Engineering, project management, Management or equivalent international certification

10-15 years’ experience in Power systems planning, development, investments and or operations with at least 5 years working at Senior level.

Registered or registrable with the ERB.

Competence in the use of Power System Planning & Development Software tools such as PSSE, Digsilent, PSS Sincal, Load Forecasting tools (Eviews, other Econometric models or equivalent) AutoCAD, PLSCADD etc.

Evidence of past experience or training in financial modelling and writing of investment proposals is an added advantage.

Possession of good analytical and communication skills.

Can demonstrate a background of personal and strategic leadership.

Highly motivated to drive self and others to the highest levels of

individual and team performance
