Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.

 

Job Summary:   The Social worker volunteer will work under the oversight of the OVC project officer to support the coordination and monitoring of the delivery of comprehensive OVC services package to Identified beneficiaries and to facilitate graduation of OVC households from vulnerability in the supported sub county and related district of placement

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively assess OVC households in health and socio-economic situations, identify their needs and formulate appropriate and sustainable plans to improve quality of life.
  • Support the enrolment of OVC beneficiaries into the program using the standard case management process as guided by MGLSD and PEPFAR guidelines
  • Conduct home visits to track enrolled OVC households; assess, verify and analyze the economic, Social situation, identify gaps and plan sustainable interventions to address these gaps so as to improve living conditions
  • Work in liaison with CBTs to support caregivers develop Economic sustainable intervention plans so that they become the primary care givers for their families.
  • Participate in the provision and referral of sustainable social support services including but not limited to; Economic strengthening, Food and Nutrition security, education support, legal & child protection, GBV, psychosocial support and basic care so as to improve the holistic wellbeing of enrolled OVC households
  • Work in liaison with the facility counselors, linkage facilitators to monitor and track OVC on ART, support the formation and management of household support groups/ VSLA so as to enhance adherence, economic sustainability and social support for OVC enrolled households
  • Carry out mentorship and coaching of service Providers-Para social workers, CBTs and any peers in case management, economic strengthening and other OVC programming areas.
  • Offering technical support to Sub county program area officers e.g. CDOs.
  • Documentation of all project interventions through success stories
  • Coordination; coordinate Project activities related to case management, Health-Screening for HTS, Stable-VSLAs, Safe-GBV screening, OVC stakeholders –CBT & Para social workers, LC etc within the sub county.
  • Proficiently monitor and document progress of case management, socio-economic, social protection and linkage interventions rendered to enrolled OVC households to ensure their effectiveness in improving livelihoods
  • Work plans; Develop (and support para social workers with) work plans, Ensure implementation of activities in alignment with work-plans, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Monitoring the implementation of sub county OVC work-plans across the different OVC thematic areas
  • Prepare and submit periodic progress reports; Compile Weekly, Monthly and quarterly reports and submit them to the OVC project officer
  • Update all files with relevant tools, and proper case notes on all thematic areas at each visit.
  • Work alongside OVC data volunteer in timely updating of registers
  • Any other duties as assigned by the OVC project officer.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in social work, social sciences, education, related
  • Self drive, ability to work in remote areas, computer skills, rider
