About Organisation:
The Ministry of Health under the Department of National Health Laboratory & Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) has received funding from Global Fund Grant (Microbiology/Amr Program) to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and wishes to use part of the grant to build strong and resilient laboratory systems that provides reference testing including genomic surveillance for pathogens of public health threat. The Ministry of Health therefore invites suitable qualified candidates to fill the positions existing in the Department of National Health Laboratory & Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) under the Global Fund Program.
Job Summary: To support microbiology testing services across the regional tier of laboratories in the network providing microbiology diagnostic and clinical advice essential for the delivery of clinical care across all areas of the health service and all specialties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide expert guidance to healthcare professionals on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
To provide leadership on Anti-microbial (AMR), surveillance activities, diagnostic stewardship local policy development, and strategic planning to optimize microbiology services.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to interpret laboratory results and contribute to patient care.
Design and implement quality control and assurance programs to maintain high laboratory standards.
Contribute to the development and implementation of regional public health policies related to infectious diseases.
Provide direct bedside diagnostic and clinical advice for patients with complex infections, especially those with compromised immune systems and internal devices,
Participate in the multidisciplinary management of patients in intensive and special care units. To work closely with clinical colleagues on the rapid assessment of patients with imported fevers, including suspected high-consequence infections such as viral haemorrhagic fevers, and those having pathogens of public health importance.
Offer infection prevention and control advice, including emergencies by facilitating rapid diagnostics, especially in cases of suspected high-consequence infections.
Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to manage outbreaks and implement infection control measures.
To participate in patient care by working closely with clinical care teams across all hospital specialties, with public health experts, epidemiologists, infection control nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory staff.
To work closely with laboratory staff to ensure their safety in the case of high-risk organisms, and to advise on the further work-up of potential pathogens.
To provide clinical leadership and support to the laboratory daily and also strategically, advise on quality improvements and service developments.
Provide technical guidance on the validation, approval, and quality control of new tests and rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) in the organization
Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings or grand rounds.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and surgery (MBChB), BDS, or its equivalent
Master’s degree in Microbiology (M. Med Microbiology) or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Relevant professional registration and licensing.
At least 3 years’ professional experience working with a reputable Organization.
