20 Volunteer Jobs – Community-Based Facilitator – Association of Refugees with Disabilities (ARD)

Job Title:  Community-Based Facilitator (20 Volunteer Jobs)

Organisation: Association of Refugees with Disabilities (ARD)

Duty Station: Nakivale, Uganda

About Organisation:

ARD is a fully registered Regional NGO which started as a support group in Kampala (2010), after detecting that PWDs couldn’t advocate for themselves without being a group. With the support from InterAid, UNHCR, and RLP, the group of Refugees with disabilities had been formed. They reached a time when they wanted to create a strong association that will be known all over Uganda.

Job Summary:   Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you have the language skills and local knowledge to support fellow refugees? The Association of Refugees with Disabilities (ARD), in partnership with Humanity & Inclusion, is excited to announce an opportunity to volunteer as a Community-Based Facilitator in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

We are seeking 20 dedicated and compassionate individuals to work in various zones within Nakivale, including Juru, Kibengo, Basecamp, Rubondo, Ruhoko, Kabazana, Kikyaza, Kashojwa, Somalia, and New Congo. As a Community-Based Facilitator, you will be at the forefront of providing essential support to refugees with disabilities, empowering them through information, coordination, and advocacy.

Your role will involve bridging the communication gap between refugees and service providers, ensuring that critical information is shared across the community. This is a chance to directly impact the lives of vulnerable individuals and improve the accessibility of vital services.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:   To be eligible for this volunteer opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Recommendation letters: One from the Zone leader where you reside and one from your current or former employer within the refugee settlement. Clearance from OPM is also accepted.

Documentation: A copy of your Attestation card, Refugee card, or National ID, along with a passport-sized photo.

Bank Account: Applicants must have a registered bank account (SACCO accounts are not accepted), along with TIN and NSSF numbers.

Language Skills: Fluent English is required, along with the ability to speak and translate at least two different local dialects spoken in Nakivale. Kiswahili or Somali is mandatory.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering as a Community-Based Facilitator is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to:

Gain meaningful experience working with refugees and people with disabilities.

Contribute to community-building initiatives and humanitarian efforts.

Develop leadership, communication, and coordination skills in a real-world setting.

Network with like-minded professionals and organizations focused on refugee and disability rights.

How to Apply:

Applications must be hand-delivered to the ARD offices at Basecamp, opposite the UNHCR offices in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. Please address your application to the Human Resource Department.
