Job Title: Estates Officer, Estate and Works

Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.
Job Summary: Design and develop architectural drawings
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produce and process drawings for new works;
- Study working drawings and plans and advise the supervisor accordingly;
- Supervise and monitor projects;
- Prepare information regarding design, structural specifications, materials, colour, equipment, estimated cost and construction time;
- Consult with the client to determine functional and spatial requirement of structure;
- Direct activities for workers preparing drawing and specification documents;
- Prepare lay out of projects;
- Prepare contract documents for building contractor;
- Integrate engineering elements into unified design;
- Conduct periodic onsite observation of work during construction to monitor compliance;
- Administer construction contracts;
- Prepare operating and maintenance manuals, studies and reports;
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Honour’s Bachelor’s degree in Architecture;
- Must be a registered Architect with a valid practicing license from a professional body.
Experience
- Three (3) years relevant working experience.
Skills/Competences
- Good communication;
- Leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Proficient in using relevant computer packages;
- Team work and team building;
- High integrity.
