About the Company:
Uganda Airlines is the flag carrier of Uganda. The company is a revival of the older Uganda Airlines which operated from 1977 until 2001. It began flying in August 2019.
Job Summary: The CFO takes lead in providing complete financial responsibility for the business and provide comprehensive reporting of all financial activity. He contributes to the strategic leadership of the company business and assumes primary responsibility for all financial activities, ensuring good financial health and effective working capital management of the airline.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: In particular, he will:
- Be responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of company operations.
- Provide strategic leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of business planning, financial management, accounting, budgeting, program and system management efforts of the company.
- Be accountable for the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.
- Evaluate and make recommendations regarding the financial impact of investment opportunities including mergers, acquisitions and new technologies
- Direct the cost saving objectives and cost management initiatives and programs of the airline
- Examine and negotiate, whilst ensuring the implementation of insurance policies, the price of fuel and the fuel supply contracts.
- Create, coordinate and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning where applicable, real estate and conservation of assets.
- Examine means to enhance growth, profitability and value creation by evaluating internal operations, potential acquisitions, cash management strategy, the effective use of corporate assets, by considering the financial risks.
- Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial information systems for the company.
- Oversee the approval processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, mass salary updates, ledger and account maintenance and data entry and develop, maintain and monitorefficient treasury management systems.
- Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial & management reports, special analyses and information reports.
- Ensure appropriate and robust finance, accounting, billing and auditing procedures.
- Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted finance standards, assist in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance required to operate the business.
- Analyze cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide business leaders.
- Develop Tax planning and compliance initiatives;
- Develop and implement purchasing and supply chain management; and
- As a member of the Leadership team, contribute and work collaboratively with all elements of day-to-day airline operations, including customer relations, safety, revenue management, scheduling, strategic alliances, sales, brand management, product development and customer service delivery.
- Carry out the team appraisals for the department to build an efficient team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
- A professionally qualified chartered accountant, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent qualification in Finance is a must.
- 10 years’ experience in a finance management role in a busy and dynamic industry. Airline experience shall be an added advantage.
- Experience in the management of multiple integrated government financial systems, taxation planning, budgeting and strategy, implementation.
- Hands on role and the candidate must be able to demonstrate not just the ability to produce accounts, but also airline financial and other system implementation,
- Must be able to motivate, coach and train other staff to perform their roles.
- Sound business judgment, a high degree of personal motivation, and very strong work ethic.
- Highly ethical individual with honesty and integrity aligning with Uganda Airlines values (CRANE)
