Refactory is a Company Limited by Guarantee that was formed by four partners; Laboremus Uganda Ltd, Fontes Foundation, Youth With A Mission UK, and Clarke International University. It has been supported by funding from the Norwegian Agency for International Development (NORAD) and other donors. It is focused on equipping learners with skills to enable them get into gainful employment.

 

Job Summary:   The Apprenticeship Officer is responsible for implementing best program practices and supporting various stakeholders of the apprenticeship program to ensure the smooth running of both training and industry partner project development and delivery. This role involves supporting trainees in the onboarding stage, training stage and the project delivery alongside others and ensuring the effective delivery of training to apprentices and management of partner relations throughout the program.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The Apprenticeship Officer will be responsible for the following functions in the Apprenticeship Program at Refactory:

Curriculum Design and Review

  • Contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of curriculum materials, course content, and instructional resources for all advanced training programs to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  • Work closely with program facilitators to incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches into the curricular of the apprenticeship training program at Refactory.

Program Delivery and Management

  • Coordinate program scheduling, and resources needed by facilitators and apprentices to ensure the smooth delivery of the Apprenticeship Program, workshops, and other learning experiences.
  • Coordinate and curate resources required by facilitators to execute on the Apprenticeship Program such as video conferencing platforms, learning platforms, etc.
  • Oversee assessment, grading and proper documentation of assessment and feedback for the Apprenticeship Program to complete the loop with all stakeholders.
  • Monitor program activities, track progress towards program goals, and address any issues or challenges that arise during program implementation.
  • Support program staff, instructors, and facilitators, providing guidance, and feedback to ensure high-quality program delivery.

Student Support and Engagement

  • Implement approved student onboarding procedures including, sending program offers, admission documentation, orientation and other onboarding requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to support student success, retention, and satisfaction throughout their learning journey at the academy.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance student engagement, collaboration, and participation in extracurricular activities, hackathons, and industry events.

Apprenticeship Project Management

  • Projects Qualification: Support the Apprenticeship Lead to analyse industry partner projects to ensure that they fit the six months scope and continuous learning aspect.
  • Project Planning: Alongside the apprentices, develop and maintain project plans from the provided project definitions, schedules and resource allocation to ensure project success.
  • Project Technical Support: Managing the full lifecycle of software development projects from initiation to closure, ensuring successful delivery within budget, scope of six months, and schedule constraints.
  • Project Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitoring project progress and providing regular project status reports to stakeholders, including project health, risks, and issues.
  • Ensuring that project deliverables meet quality standards and user expectations, conducting quality assurance activities as needed.
  • Support the Technical Lead and Apprenticeship Lead to provide technical guidance to the project team, ensuring that development methodologies and best practices are followed.
  • Managing project scope changes and ensuring that they are documented, reviewed, and approved by stakeholders.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Oversee the coaching and mentorship of Apprentices to ensure timely & expected delivery of industry partner projects.
  • Reporting: Detail the Apprenticeship program activities in a precise report as required by various stakeholders on a periodic basis.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Work with the Data Analytics team to implement approved monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and processes to assess program effectiveness, outcomes, and impact.
  • Collect, analyse, and report data on program performance, student outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to inform program improvement and decision-making.
  • Prepare regular reports, presentations, and updates for internal and external stakeholders on program activities, achievements, and challenges.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • An Education background in Software Engineering and related disciplines,
  • 3+ years experience working in technology or related industry roles.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of agile software development processes and methodologies.
  • Experience in programming using various languages and frameworks.
  • Familiar with the Education and Technology Ecosystems.
  • Working knowledge of building web and mobile applications.
  • Knowledge and experience in project management as applied in the technology industry.
  • Excellent writing, communication, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Be a self starter that is organised and analytical enough to collect & use data to make informed decisions.
  • Be a creative critical thinker that solves problems with simple and up to scratch solutions.
  • Flexible enough to learn fast and adapt to an fast paced agile environment.
  • Ability to mentor and coach teams during the project lifecycle.
  • Project management, People management, or comparable work experience of the same.
