About the Company:

Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns (VEDCO) Is an Independent, Non-governmental and not for profit agricultural organization founded in 1986 by a group of university students in response to challenges of poverty, which was a result of the social and economic disruptions caused by military conflicts of 1980-86. VEDCO started as a self-help organization working with other relief organizations operating in Luwero, where there was insecurity as a cause of poverty at the time.

 

About Project:

Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns (VEDCO) is implementing a project titled “integrated and Sustainable Production for Inclusive and Resilient Economies (INSPIRE) in Kamuli, Dokolo and Amolatar districts. The project focuses on sustainable, inclusive development and increased productivity and sustainable land use by Small Holder Famers.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and training of the farmer groups, clusters. (Mobilizations, profiling and validation)
  • Linking the farmer groups to the financial institutions, formation and training of VSLA groups.
  • Identification and registration of beneficiaries
  • Setting up of demonstration plots (gardens), using hands on approach and demo yield data collection.
  • Documentation-writing weekly, monthly and quarterly reports
  • Planning and organizing exposure field visits, Field days and World Food day celebrations.
  • Coordinating the work of the Community based trainers assigned to the area of work/ coverage.
  • Guiding farmers on viable enterprise selection and Business plan development.
  • Development and support to the Local seed businesses.
  • Linkages of the farmer group to the seed breeders/input dealers.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related discipline
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project implementation.
  • Possession of a valid Motor cycle driving permit (Class A) is a MUST

Critical Competencies.

  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work in Kamuli, Dokolo and Amolater
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
