Job Title:  Senior Accountant

Job Summary:   As a Senior Accountant, the role holder would be responsible for the financial reporting for 6 various companies in the food and agricultural sector in Uganda under the investment portfolio of an investment company. You will play a crucial role in managing financial reporting and providing strategic insights to the investors as well as ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data across the portfolio companies, as well as advising on financial matters to optimise performance and mitigate risks. The role holder will be based in Tororo, Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

• Review and report on the financial statement of the portfolio companies.
• Prepare and analyse financial statements for the portfolio companies.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and Ugandan regulatory requirements.
• Generate accurate financial reports for portfolio companies’ management and investors.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

• Collaborate with management teams to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
• Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and revenue enhancement.

Financial Analysis:

• Conduct in-depth financial analysis to assess the financial health and performance of portfolio companies.
• Provide insights and recommendations to optimise profitability and operational efficiency.
• Assist in due diligence processes for potential investments and acquisitions.

Risk Management:

• Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Monitor financial compliance and internal controls within portfolio companies.
• Implement best practices to safeguard assets and ensure business continuity.

Investor Advisory:

• Prepare financial reports and presentations for investor meetings.
• Interpret financial data and provide insights to investors on portfolio performance and potential opportunities.
• Collaborate with portfolio companies’ management teams to address investor inquiries and concerns.

Team Collaboration:

• Work closely with management teams within portfolio companies to streamline financial processes and reporting.
• Coordinate with other departments such as operations, procurement, and sales to gather relevant financial data and insights.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 8 years’ progressive financial experience, a group of companies, the food and agriculture industry or related sectors.
• CPA/ACCA/CIMA qualification is an added advantage.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis techniques.
• Proficiency in financial reporting software and ERP systems.
• Excellent leadership, team management and organisational skills.
• Advanced knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and taxation.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
