Job Summary:   The CRG Officer will be based in the field, and she/he will be primarily responsible for the implementation of the Thematic Program on Child Rights Governance, ensuring the achievement of the CRG strategy and program objectives.  The CRG Officer is also responsible for the joint planning, reporting and ongoing relationship with CRG local partners including local governments in the region.  S/he will be responsible for initiating and scaling up innovative child participation platforms ensuring children are empowered on their rights and their voices inform decision making at school, community, district, and national level.

The CRG Officer is further expected to collaborate with other programmatic staff in the sub region to support the full participation of children across the whole program cycle. The CRG Officer will contribute to developing project proposals and monitoring budget spends against program detailed implementation plans.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Implementation: Responsible for implementing the Thematic Program on Child Rights Governance and ensuring the achievement of the program objectives.

  • Develop annual work plan with input from country office CRG Technical specialist and Project Manager
  • Contribute to the long-term strategic planning of the CRG program.
  • Monitor activities against detailed implementation plans, making recommendations on corrective measures to the Regional Program Manager and the Senior Management Team.
  • Prepare reports and other information to for internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Gather and collate monitoring data.
  • Participate in internal and external evaluations based on collective learning from direct and partner implementation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Monthly, Quarterly, Annual reports to respective donors on CRG work.
  • Partnership Support and Coordination: Responsible for joint planning and fostering ongoing relationships with CRG partners in the region.
  • Identification of partners and conducting assessment of their suitability in undertaking CRG work.
  • Conduct regular visits to monitor and support partners in implementation of their work for and with children.
  • Provide feedback to partners based on agreed outcomes and principles to ensure achievement of CRG objectives.
  • Create relationships with CSOs in the region to promote coordinated actions in support of child rights and governance in the region.
  • Monitor and report on progress of joint work with CSO partners and allies on child rights.
  • In close collaboration with Project Manager, identify potential risks in child rights promotion and protection

Budget Management and Business Development

  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget for the thematic program on Child Rights Governance.
  • Monitor the implementation of the agreed budget against program detailed implementation plan.
  • Support the development of concept notes and project proposals.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  To be a strong supporter and advocate for children in this role you will need to have:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, international relations and/or related fields.
  • At least three years relevant experience working with non-government organizations.
  • Good understanding of child rights governance issues in the country.
  • Knowledge of regional and International human rights bodies such as the African Union, United Nations will be an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of the program management cycle including financial and operational processes.
  • Proven ability to handle challenging workload with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of work.
  • Cross-cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle and ready to acquire a valid riding permit
