Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Gender and Safeguarding Officer to ensure the integration of gender equality principles and robust safeguarding measures in WITU’s digital skills training and employment program for young women. This role is crucial in creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all program participants.





Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Gender Mainstreaming

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote gender equality throughout the program
  • Conduct gender analysis of program activities and recommend improvements
  • Provide guidance on gender-responsive budgeting and resource allocation

Safeguarding Policy Development and Implementation

  • Develop, implement, and regularly review safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Ensure all staff, volunteers, and partners are trained on and adhere to safeguarding protocols
  • Establish reporting mechanisms for safeguarding concerns and incidents

Risk Assessment and Mitigation

  • Conduct regular risk assessments related to gender and safeguarding issues
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Monitor the effectiveness of safeguarding measures and recommend improvements

Training and Capacity Building

  • Design and deliver gender sensitivity and safeguarding training for staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Develop resources and materials to support ongoing learning in gender and safeguarding

Incident Response and Management

  • Lead the response to any safeguarding incidents or concerns
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities and support services when necessary
  • Ensure proper documentation and follow-up of all incidents

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Establish indicators to measure the effectiveness of gender and safeguarding initiatives
  • Prepare regular reports on gender integration and safeguarding for management and donors
  • Contribute to the overall monitoring and evaluation of the program from a gender and safeguarding perspective

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with local women’s organizations and safeguarding experts to inform best practices
  • Represent WITU in relevant forums and networks related to gender and safeguarding

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights, or a related field
  • Three to five years of experience in gender mainstreaming and safeguarding, preferably in development projects
  • Strong understanding of gender issues and safeguarding principles in the context of youth empowerment programs
  • Experience in policy development and implementation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to work in multicultural environments
  • Commitment to promoting gender equality and protecting vulnerable individuals
  • Strong understanding of gender equality principles and safeguarding best practices
  • Excellent policy development and implementation skills
  • Ability to conduct gender analysis and risk assessments
  • Strong training and facilitation skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively in diverse environments
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications and data management tools
