Job Summary:   The Trade Assistant will support the Coffee Trader in managing the logistics, quality control, coffee inventory and sales of coffee. The role involves coordinating with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to ensure smooth and efficient coffee trading operations.




Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The trade assistant will support the trader on the trading desk and help manage the trader’s analysis of sourcing and sales operations.
  • The trade assistant will maintain accurate records, compile reporting on purchase activities, generating and helping execute contracts for sales, keeping a record of the trade and coffee stock position each day, and other ad-hoc duties that will help contribute to the desk’s success and the company’s performance.
  • The role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities and tasks that span across multiple business functions such as logistics, quality control, accounting, and legal.
  • The trade assistant will also have a close working relationship with the team at the core of our coffee business and be exposed to key strategies and business plans and will therefore need a high level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • The trade assistant will conduct research on coffee market trends, pricing, and competitors and stay updated on industry news and developments.
  • In turn, the trade assistant will gain exposure, training, and understanding across the Ugandan coffee sector and the wider international coffee market.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in Mathematics, Economics, Business Management or Finance is preferred

Work Experience:

  • Two to three years of work experience in a commercial, financial or logistics organization working with coffee or other commodities.

Desired profile

  • Confident and commercially minded with an interest in commodities trading
  • Excellent communicator who is not afraid to ask questions
  • Comfortable with presenting or public speaking
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
