About the Company:
Global Health Uganda (GHU) is a registered not for profit, limited liability company with the mission to promote child health by conducting and facilitating quality and relevant research in child health, neurodevelopment and interventions.
About SMART Brain Project:
In collaboration with, Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda and Indiana University, GHU is conducting a study entitled ‘Severe Malaria and Risk to the Brain (SMART Brain)’. This study will be conducted at Jinja Regional Referral hospital.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and Screen patients for possible enrolment into the study according to the protocol.
- Recruitment and enrollment of eligible patients into the study
- Provide emergency and continuous medical care to children taking part in the study for the duration of the study.
- Consent and explain study procedures to caregivers and older children.
- Collect appropriate samples from the study participants and ensure that they are delivered to the appropriate labs as per protocol.
- Responsible for documentation and reporting of any adverse events.
- Train/supervise study nurses.
- Participate in routine clinical care of non-study participants on the wards.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisors in line with your work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Bachelor’s in Surgery
- At least three years of relevant work experience
- Fluent in verbal and written English, as well as the local language (site specific: Lusoga respectively).
- Proven Good Clinical Practices (GCP) training and 2024 Annual practicing license
- Previous working experience in a clinical research environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships with participants
- Teamworking skills to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to keep up to date with current malaria information and research.
