Job Summary: The Kroiler Parent Stock Associate will be responsible for the management and care of broiler breeder flocks, ensuring optimal health, welfare, and reproductive performance. There will be need to re-establish involves meticulous planning, investment suggestions and adherence to industry best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Setup
- Market Research and Feasibility Study: Conduct thorough market research to assess demand for broiler parent stock in your target market. Evaluate the feasibility of the project by analyzing factors such as market trends, competition, potential customers, and profitability projections.
- Business Plan Development: Develop a comprehensive business plan outlining the goals, objectives, and strategies for the broiler parent project. Include details on production capacity, breeding objectives, marketing strategies, financial projections, and risk management plans.
- Site Selection and Infrastructure: Develop appropriate infrastructure, including breeding facilities, housing units, biosecurity measures, feed storage facilities, and waste management systems.
- Feed and Nutrition Management: In collaboration with feed mill review the nutritionally balanced diet for broiler breeders that meets their specific dietary requirements at different stages of production, including breeding, laying, and rearing.
- Supplier Database: Establish relationships with feed suppliers or invest in on-farm feed production facilities to ensure a reliable supply of feed ingredients. Draw a detailed database.
- Health Management and Biosecurity: In collaboration with Broiler parent Manager and Veterinary Associate Implement strict biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the parent stock flock. Develop a comprehensive health management plan in consultation with a veterinarian, including vaccination programs, disease monitoring protocols, and biosecurity protocols.
- Record keeping: Implement proper record-keeping systems to track breeding performance, pedigree information, and genetic data for parent stock selection and management.
- Egg Incubation and Hatchery Operations: Implement optimal incubation and hatchery management practices to maximize hatchability, chick quality, and overall reproductive performance.
- SOP Development: Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for day-to-day farm operations and provide ongoing training and supervision to ensure compliance.
- Financial Planning and Risk Management: Prepare a budget detailing startup costs, operating expenses, and revenue projections for the parent stock project. Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to mitigate risks associated with production, market fluctuations, and other factors.
- Regulatory Compliance and Permits: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, permits, and licensing requirements governing poultry breeding operations, animal welfare, food safety, and environmental protection. Obtain necessary permits and approvals from regulatory authorities before commencing operations.
- Marketing and Sales Strategy: Develop a marketing and sales strategy to promote parent stock sales to commercial broiler producers, hatcheries, and integrated poultry companies. Establish relationships with potential customers and distributors to secure sales channels for hatching eggs and day-old chicks.
Daily
- Breeder Flock Management: Oversee the day-to-day care and management of broiler parent stock flocks, including monitoring flock health, nutrition, and environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance.
- Reproductive Management: Implement and oversee breeding and reproduction programs to maximize fertility, hatchability, and chick quality. Monitor flock fertility rates, egg production, and hatch rates, and make adjustments as necessary to optimize reproductive efficiency.
- Genetic Selection: Work closely with breeding and genetics teams to select and maintain high-performing broiler breeder lines. Assist with the evaluation of breeding stock and the implementation of genetic improvement programs to enhance traits such as growth rate, feed efficiency, and meat quality.
- Hatchery Coordination: Coordinate with hatchery staff to ensure timely collection, handling, and incubation of hatching eggs. Monitor egg quality, fertility, and hatchability throughout the hatchery process to optimize chick production.
- Health Management: Implement biosecurity protocols and disease prevention measures to minimize the risk of disease outbreaks within the parent stock flocks. Collaborate with veterinarians to develop and implement vaccination programs and health management strategies.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Maintain accurate records of breeding and production data, including flock performance, egg production, fertility rates, hatchability, and chick quality. Analyze data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and make data-driven decisions to improve performance.
- Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Ensure that breeder houses, equipment, and facilities are clean, well-maintained, and properly equipped to meet the needs of the breeding stock. Conduct routine maintenance and repairs as needed to optimize flock health and productivity.
- Team Leadership and Training: Provide leadership, supervision, and training to farm staff involved in breeder flock management. Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and ensure that all team members adhere to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in animal science, poultry science, agriculture, or a related field is often preferred. Advanced degrees or certifications in poultry management, genetics, or animal husbandry can be advantageous.
- Experience: Previous experience working in poultry farming, with a focus on managing broiler breeder flocks, is essential. Practical experience in all aspects of parent stock management, including breeding, selection, nutrition, and health management.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of broiler breeder management practices, including genetics, reproduction, nutrition, housing systems, and flock health. Familiarity with industry best practices, breeding programs, and performance evaluation metrics.
- Breeding and Genetics: Knowledge of principles and practices related to poultry breeding, including pedigree analysis, selection criteria, mating programs, and genetic improvement strategies. Experience in managing breeding programs and conducting performance testing.
- Health Management: Proficiency in monitoring and maintaining the health and welfare of broiler parent stock, including disease prevention, vaccination programs, biosecurity protocols, and treatment protocols. Familiarity with common diseases and health issues affecting breeder flocks.
- Nutrition and Feed Management: Understanding of nutritional requirements for broiler breeders at different stages of production, including pre-breeding, laying, and rearing. Ability to formulate and manage feed programs to optimize reproductive performance and egg quality.
- Data Analysis and Record-Keeping: Strong analytical skills to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to flock performance, reproductive parameters, egg production, hatchability, and chick quality. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and using data management software.
- Team Leadership and Communication: Effective leadership skills to supervise and motivate a team of farm workers, technicians, and other personnel involved in parent stock management. Excellent communication skills to convey instructions, provide feedback, and collaborate with others effectively.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address challenges related to breeder flock management, such as fertility issues, egg production problems, behavioral issues, and environmental factors. Ability to implement proactive solutions and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
