Job Summary: The Finance Lead will oversee the financial management. The ideal candidate will ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle, contributing directly to our mission of empowering young women through digital skills and employment opportunities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Budget Management
- Prepare and manage the project budgets. This includes developing annual and quarterly budgets, submitting quarterly and annual project budget approvals to the Director and thereafter making timely budget requisitions to consortium lead
- Participating in program financial management engagements with consortium lead and the program financial management and capacity strengthening partner.
- Conduct periodic financial analysis to identify and resolve issues, gaps, or variances
- Ensure all expenses are within the assigned project budget
Financial Policies and Procedures
- Develop and implement financial policies to ensure operational efficiency. Coordinate with the program financial management and capacity strengthening partner and consortium lead to ensure recommendations are implemented in WITU
- Streamline financial processes and release of funds as per WITU and the program financial management expectations
- Ensure that the program audit is done in accordance with proper audit and accounting procedures for successful audit results and recommendations.
- Provide financial management support and guidance to WITU staff & downstream partners on the accounting processes and systems at our organisation
Accounting and Reporting
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of quarterly and annual financial reports to consortium lead
- Manage cash controls and maintain up-to-date bookkeeping. Ensure that all key supporting documentation for transactions is captured as per good financial management practices.
Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, invoices, and proposals
- Manage the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and expense reports
- Ensure data integrity in all financial reporting
Transaction Management
- Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and updated
- Manage accounts receivable and payable activities accurately and timely
- Track investments and maintain relevant cash reserves
Quality Control and Problem-Solving
- Ensure that all program assets are procured in a competitive and transparent manner. This includes development of procurement TORs, setting up an evaluation team, developing evaluation templates and supporting the evaluation process, communicating to bidders on the procurement outcomes
- Maintain an active register of all program assets and submit quarterly asset reports to consortium lead. Keep stock and track of assets and maintain proper records of their utilisation within the program
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and the program requirements. This includes the timely filing and payment of relevant taxes that include PAYE, VAT, WHT, income tax and benefits (NSSF). The Program budgeting and financial reporting requirements
- Ensure that annual the program audits are undertaken not later than 3 months after the close of a program year.
- Coordinate with the human resource officer to ensure that payroll records are well documented and submitted on a quarterly basis to consortium lead as part of financial reporting. This includes proof of payments to program staff, proof of filing and payment of PAYE and NSSF, timesheets are properly documented and signed off.
- Ensure that program funds are not utilised to support political activities nor support ineligible activities that include terrorism.
- Prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Review financial paperwork and procedures and make appropriate changes
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelors or Honors degree in financial management or accounting
- Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proven track record in strategic financial planning and analysis
- Extensive experience with accounting software systems, including implementation and customization
- Strong understanding of international financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a finance team
- Experience in risk management and internal control procedures
- Proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting
- Knowledge of tax regulations and experience in tax planning
- Have internationally recognised accounting qualifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent), 5 years experience of work including project funds accountability from large entities like USAID, experience of accounting software
