About Organisation:

Windle International Uganda (WIU) is an International Non-Governmental Organization managing Education programmes in refugee settlements in Uganda. WIU is the lead agency for education in 9 out of the 12 settlements, although we operate in all 12 settlements including Kampala. We work in close collaboration with Government of Uganda through the Office of the Prime Minister.

 

Job Summary:   The Project Assistant will lead the pilot implementation of the Peer-to-Peer Solutions Advisory Network Program (P2P). The program aims to provide refugee youth access to trained refugee university guidance experts who can advise on relevant options and pathways they are eligible for and support them to prepare for application processes into tertiary education, employment and potential third country opportunities. Through the P2P, trained Refugee Solution Advisers will provide a tiered range of services to refugee students.

 

Overall purpose and scope of the job:

The overarching objective of this role is to support the implementation of the peer-to-peer advisory network project. This role includes elements of training, project management, public speaking, leadership, learning content development, advocacy, facilitating group information sessions, one on one advising, scheduling and coordinating meetings, leading counselling sessions and discussions, and other relevant capacities.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Training, learning, content development and Counselling:

  • Create training resources based on lessons learned: Develop educational materials and resources derived from lessons learned during project implementation to enhance future training sessions.
  • Provide training and technical support: Includes delivering training sessions or workshops and offering technical assistance to individuals involved in the project, ensuring their proficiency and competence to support the scholarships programme.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Change Management and Reporting:
  • Report against the project’s M&E reporting tools: Requires providing updates and insights using Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) reporting tools, contributing to the assessment of project performance and impact. Propose improvements and changes in the program: Based on own training and training delivered, identify areas for enhancements and modifications to the existing program structure, processes, and materials. Success Stories: Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them to WIU Communications Officer for publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment reports on project actions, results, challenges and opportunities
  • Work on the administrative processes of the project: including handling documentation, record-keeping, and ensuring organizational processes run smoothly.

Community Engagement:

  • Promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work such as engaging with the Tertiary Refugee Students Network, DAFI Student Clubs or other relevant student groups
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the locations assigned; Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Active participation in the DAFI Alumni Association is required Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Must possess a Class A driving permit and be able to ride a motorcycle. This is required.
  • Knowledge of native tongues, i.e. Arabic, Burundian, French, Rwandese languages, etc
  • Experience in facilitating training programs for youth
  • Knowledge of scholarships for refugees and the skillset to pursue these opportunities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with advisors and students
  • Lived experience of forced displacement (must have a valid refugee attestation form/ ID) Strong oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, presentation and reporting skills; Attention to detail in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Good overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; and office technology equipment
