Client Brief

Our client is a Ugandan NGO whose goal is to provide long-term sustained funding for biodiversity conservation and environmental management. It has an established valued Niche is Conservation Financing, which consists of the development and promotion of Cutting edge conservation initiatives, Managing grants on behalf of donors, Establishment of Payment for Environmental Services Schemes, Building public-private partnerships and Land Trusts. Our client is currently seeking applications from very dynamic self–driven professionals to join their team.

Job Summary:   Reporting to the District Project Managers, the Project Officers will be responsible for implementing project activities in 3 selected sub-counties of the district and supervising a total of 9 volunteer Farmer Coordinators (3 per sub-county) for the effective implementation of all project activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organizing and holding community engagement meetings at sub-country and parish levels for the recruitment of households into the project tree planting program.
• Participatory selection, training, and supervision of 9 volunteer farmer coordinators (3 per sub-county) to support the monitoring of all farmers recruited in the program.
• Lead the review, monitoring and mapping of all parcels recruited into the tree-growing program to ensure formal recruitment into the Trees for Global Benefit (TGB) carbon program.
• Ensuring the effective distribution and planting of tree seedlings to all HHs recruited into the program and regular monitoring ensure a survival rate of not less than 80%.
• Organizing and conducting regular farmer feedback meetings for real-time feedback from the farmers on the effectiveness of all project activities.
• Ensure the establishment of at least one farmers’ Centre of Excellence for Peer Learning and Extension Services (CEPLES) per sub-county over the 4 years of project life

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, agriculture, environmental studies, development studies, natural sciences or social sciences from a recognized university.
• Training in Participatory skills will be added advantage.
