About Organisation:
Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is implementing a community-led HIV self-testing program for adolescent girls and young women in Northern Uganda, with support from the Gilead Public Health Research Scholars Program. This project, also called the FACT-HIV Study, aims to evaluate the feasibility of a peer-led HIV self-testing model facilitated by community health workers in Omoro district.
Job Summary: We are looking to recruit dedicated Research Assistants to collect data for the FACT-HIV Study in five selected sub-counties in Omoro district.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtain written informed consent from diverse participants, including youth and community leaders.
- Conduct comprehensive quantitative interviews strictly adhering to the study protocol to ensure consistency and reliability of data.
- Coordinate and manage study-related activities across various sites, ensuring efficient execution of the project’s timelines and goals.
- Maintain good and professional interactions and relationships with community leaders, healthcare workers, and community members at the study sites.
- Conduct qualitative interviews and focus group discussions with diverse participants, including youth and community leaders.
- Accurately transcribe recordings from interviews and discussions, paying close attention to detail.
- Respond to questions the respondents may ask before or during data collection.
- Participate in data management processes, including data validation, to ensure the accuracy and quality of collected data.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigators (PI) to support the overarching goals of the study.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Candidates must possess a Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. Suitable disciplines include, but are not limited to, Nursing, Midwifery, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, or Medicine with a valid practicing license.
- Proficiency in English and local languages predominantly spoken in the study sites (Acholi or Lango).
- Prior experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, particularly within research projects conducted by tertiary institutions in Uganda.
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice, Human Subjects Protection, or equivalent ethics training.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and observe deadlines.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in research or direct engagement with persons living with HIV/AIDS.
- Ability to conduct activities through virtual platforms such as phones, Zoom, and similar technologies.
- Previous experience and proficiency in using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) tools.
- Good report writing skills.
