About Organisation:
Meridian Tobacco Company (MTC) is a US$20 million complex based in Arua, engaged in tobacco growing and processing. MTC began production in 2014 currently consisting of 32,000m² manufacturing facilities and storage. MTC has a processing capacity of 30 million Kgs per year of tobacco.
Job Summary: MTC runs factory processing that amongst others include a Primary Manufacturing Department (PMD). The Maintenance Supervisor shall be the maintenance systems owner for the Primary Manufacturing Department and is ultimately responsible for eliminating maintenance and breakdown related losses of plants/parts, equipment & machineries at the lowest cost. The incumbent is responsible for building capability in Operating Teams and Equipment Owners to deliver overall line results supporting the Compelling Business Needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that safety is observed at all times.
- Analyze the causes of downtime of process equipment and ensure proper maintenance execution to reduce this.
- Reduce downtime by ensuring breakdowns are attended quickly and resourced efficiently.
- Increase productivity in the assigned lines by achieving the average line availability targets to ensure the factory meets planned production schedules on time in full
- Coordinate periodic preventive maintenance with line technicians, workshop and services team to ensure it is executed as planned and the machinery brought back to full production on schedule.
- Promote teamwork through effective facilitation, networking, and leadership
- Coach and train Equipment owners (Production crew) staff in on breakdown elimination and defect handling to deliver tangible performance improvement
- Inspire and motivate the team through effective working relationships to improve performance
- Participate in planning of maintenance development and strategy improvement
- Participate in the development and implementation of measures to improve product quality and more efficient use of capacity.
- Authorize Work Orders, Spares requisition and initiate spares order when necessary.
- Support Project execution and machine conversions and advise the workshop on the list of sub-assemblies required and report defective sub-assemblies
Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Diploma in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering
- Three years of working experience in maintenance
- Timely and sound decision making on all areas within maintenance scope, ability to lead and manage teams and demonstrated leadership in the areas of safety and quality, Clear understanding of resource management (people and costs) & demonstrated change leadership capabilities.
- Interpersonal collaboration skills and seeks input from broader team, effective coaching and communication skills with the ability to present to small & large groups and clearly communicate messages.
- High level of personal responsibility and accountability for results
- Ability to work with data and information and possessing of sound Microsoft Office and CAD skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assimilate technical data to support recommendations plus a demonstrated problem solving skills and ability
- Familiarity with structured problem tools, such as fishbone diagram, 5 why, RCA.
