DFCU Bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

 

Job Summary: Reporting to the Head- Product Development and Innovation, the Manager – Innovation and Digital Transformation will be responsible for leading the innovation team in its drive to support the transformation agenda of dfcu bank towards a modern digitized bank with leadership in operational excellence and customer experience.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for driving the Innovations transformation agenda of the bank to reach its strategic aspirations.
  • Support execution of the digital strategy
  • Use modern techniques such as LEAN to create more customer value without increasing resources.
  • Work closely with all relevant managers in the bank to support the drive towards strategic transition via Innovative developments.
  • Be the centre of expertise for innovation activities in all domains of the bank (client-facing, Digital Strategy, Operations, Regulatory Implementations).
  • Lead the identification and development of innovative and emerging technologies with an unwavering passion for delivering innovative, new products across all business functions. You will relentlessly and successfully drive the R&D function solving real consumer (Internal & External) needs with a focus on both the short-term and long-term product roadmap.
  • Build and develop fintech relationships and develop strategic partnerships with those who share our goal of continuous innovation and breakthrough thinking. The ability to lead and inspire fintech teams that bring products/services to market faster than our competition is critical.

 



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Computing, Commerce, Accounting or Business Statistics or another related field.
  • Adept at Financial Technology & Innovation.
  • A professional qualification in banking e.g. ACIB and Project Management (e.g. Prince II would be an added advantage).
  • Ability to prepare product papers / Business cases.
  • At least 8 years of work experience, 2 of which should be in a senior technology or operations position at a large financial services institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving innovation and change agendas in Financial Services.
  • Demonstrated ability to link and apply complex technologies to business strategies & a high proficiency in Information and Communication Technology.
  • Strong skills in product analysis, business process analysis and redesign.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, FinTech, and industry trends.
  • Strong skills in project management and project execution are an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with the financial services industry in Uganda and the region.
  • Strong understanding and experience in digital banking services.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and personal effectiveness.
  • High level of integrity and strong entrepreneurial skills.
  • Strong skills at relationship building.
  • Self-drive and initiative.
  • Strong leader with soft-power skills.
