Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Planning and Monitoring Specialist, the UN Youth Volunteer, Planning Officer – UN Coordination will support UNICEF’s coordination efforts towards engagement with the UNSDCF and other UN agencies in Uganda. This will include coordinating Programme teams towards UNSCDF common planning, implementation, and monitoring, and reporting requirements. The Planning Officer – UN Coordination will also support Programme teams that have integrated/joint programmes with other UN agencies within the UNSDCF.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Specifically, the Planning Officer will undertake the following tasks:
UNSDCF Planning and Reporting Processes
- Contributes to preparation and coordination of UNICEF inputs to UN One UN Work-plan/Joint Programmes.
- Participates in meetings with UN agencies for programme/project review and follows up on implementation of recommendations and agreements.
- Participates in the finalization of rolling work plan and ensures compliance with specific assigned objectives of the UNSDCF.
- Contributes towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis and UNSCDF by com-piling data, analyzing and evaluating information for UNICEF Programmes and participating Results Groups.
- Supports any Knowledge Management efforts towards UNICEF’s contribution to the UNSDCF maintaining an active repository of cross-referenced Programme Work Plans, Reports, presentations, and KM products.
- Supports nationally led planning processes are strengthened to support the realization of national development goals and international commitments which contribute to improving the situation of children and women and reduce disparities among the most vulnerable populations.
- Contributes to UNICEF’s participation in the UNSDCF development process within and outside UNICEF to ensure adequate input on the improvement and well-being of women and children.
Provide support to the UNICEF Chairs of Results Group, Integrated Pro-grammes, or Deputies Group their contribution to support UNSDCF planning and monitoring.
- Contributes to efforts aimed at providing technical advice/guidance to the UNICEF Chairs on consultations with the government, donors on policy, planning and coordination of development assistance.
- At the request of the SMT, support various national and UN meetings as well as in regional coordination of UN activities.
Advocacy, networking, and partnership building
- Support building strategic partnerships through networking and advocacy with UN system agency partners to reinforce cooperation and/or pursue opportunities to pro-mote goals and achieve sustainable and broad results on integrated approaches.
- Participates in inter-agency discussions and planning to ensure organizational position, interests and priorities are fully considered and integrated in the UNSCDF development planning and agenda setting process.
- Assists in collaborating with inter-agency partners/colleagues in the UNSCDCF planning and preparation of programmes/projects including emergency preparedness.
Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations, development studies, or another relevant technical field.
- One year of experience in or demonstrated interest in social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy, or another related area. Relevant experience in a private or public sector and/or organizations is considered as an asset.
- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

- Languages: English, Level: Fluent, Required
This assignment is funded by the Government of Korea and therefore specific criteria apply:
- Candidates must be Korean nationals.
- Candidates must be between 22 and 29 years old at the time of application. NOTE: If you are older than 26 when applying, the system will display a notification that the ’application does not meet the eligibility criteria’. Please disregard this notification and submit your application.
- Candidates who have already served as UN Youth Volunteer funded by the Government of Korea are not eligible to apply (former UN University Volunteers are eligible).
- Serving UN Volunteers will not be considered for other UN Volunteer assignments until they reach three (3) months before the End of Contract date of their current UN Volunteer assignment. This provision applies equally to first and subsequent contracts.
- Candidates may apply to a maximum of three assignments and indicate the order of preference in the ‘Additional remarks’ field when filling in the application form.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment.
