The Lutheran World Federation is a global communion of national and regional Lutheran denominations headquartered in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. The federation was founded in the Swedish city of Lund in the aftermath of the Second World War in 1947 to coordinate the activities of the many differing Lutheran churches. Since 1984, the member churches are in pulpit and altar fellowship, with common doctrine as the basis of membership and mission activity.

 

Job Summary:   The Project Assistant – Child Protection will provide grassroot case management support to children with specific needs through case identification, assessment, registration, documentation, Case planning, case plan implementation including direct services, referrals and FTR, follow- up and monitoring, case closure for UASC children and verification of the children in the system. The PA-CP will generate reports in different forms, share data/ information with respect to the information sharing protocol and assume the responsibilities given under the purpose in accordance with a well-defined framework of policies and procedures under immediate supervision.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With support from the different CBCPS and community, identify children with different protection concerns and update the protection situation relating to UASC and vulnerable children in the assigned location of duty.
  • Conduct registration and assessment of children with protection concerns in regard to the BIP process to assess their risks and needs.
  • Develop a case plan for each case identified with support from the child, family and CPCs to help identify the services or support they would require.
  • Ensure timely implementation of case plan developed through direct (e.g. PFA, mediation, skills building and giving resources), indirect services and support through use of the referral pathway for other services and coordination multiple services through case conference.
  • Regularly follow-up and monitor children with protection concerns to assess progress and additional needs
  • Review and (where necessary) modifying plans in case of changes or persistence of risk of an individual child
  • Close the cases of UASC and vulnerable children following the evaluation (if the goals have been met and there are no new protection concerns).
  • Verify all the cases allocated to (child with BIA in the system) in the zone to confirm the presence of the child in the settlement.

Technical and Capacity Building

  • Report daily, weekly and monthly on cases of UASC and vulnerable children and progress against case plan through case forms, case conferences and urgent cases through note for file (within24 hours).
  • Ensure child protection case management using ProGres V4
  • Maintain standards for child participation, including data confidentiality, filing and maintaining case history reports.
  • Support the Case Management Supervisor and Senior Child Protection officer in maintaining and updating the case management system.
  • Work with community leaders and child protection committee to support children.
  • Link children and families to services providers with support of Case Management Supervisor.
  • Ensure dissemination of referral pathway within the community.
  • Strengthen the capacities of CBCPS through planning and feedback meetings on CP services and referral pathway.
  • Liaise and build capacities of CBFs in other sectors for a multi-sectorial CP response and effective monitoring of case-by-case progress.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the Project Assistant – Child Protection job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Social Sciences, Development studies or any related fields.
  • Ability to ride with a valid Class A driving permit
  • Child protection case management experience
  • Competent skills in information management including MS Packages, ProGres V4, SurveyCTO
  • Experience in working with refugee children and communities.
  • Strong communication skills.

Personal Qualities

  • Must have a sound track record to work with children (no criminal record).
  • Must be willing to ride a motorcycle and possess a valid riding permit.
  • Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure, enjoys working in the field and previous work in nutrition or health related intervention is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills.
  • Able to adhere to set security standards.
