Job Summary: As an Aquaculture Associate, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations and management of our aquaculture facilities. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the day-to-day operations, monitoring water quality, feeding and caring for aquatic species, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. You will work closely with the Aquaculture Manager and other team members to maintain high animal welfare standards, optimize production efficiency, and contribute to the overall success of our aquaculture program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Aquaculture Operations:
- Assist with the daily operations of the aquaculture facilities, including feeding, stocking, and harvesting aquatic species.
- Monitor water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, oxygen levels, and ammonia concentrations.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning tanks, filters, and equipment, to ensure optimal conditions for aquatic species.
Animal Husbandry:
- Feed and care for aquatic species according to established feeding protocols and schedules. o Monitor the health and behavior of aquatic species, identifying and responding to signs of disease or stress.
- Assist with the handling and transportation of aquatic species, ensuring their welfare and safety at all times.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and permits governing aquaculture operations, including environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of stocking densities, feeding regimes, water quality parameters, and other relevant data.
Research and Development:
- Assist with research projects and experiments aimed at improving production efficiency, disease management, and sustainability in aquaculture.
- Collect and analyze data, and contribute to the interpretation and reporting of research findings.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other team members, including Aquaculture Manager, Technicians, and Researchers, to achieve production targets and research objectives.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks, share information, and resolve issues as they arise.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Biology, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in aquaculture facilities or related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of aquaculture principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of water quality parameters and their importance in aquaculture systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
