Zembo Motorcycles SMC Limited is leading the African transition to electric mobility. Based in Kampala, Uganda, we provide affordable (PayGo) electric two-wheelers to low-income motorcycle-taxi drivers, most known locally as “boda-boda ”drivers. We offer a battery swapping service to our clients, enabling to swap within minutes at any of our stations.

 

Job Summary:    As the Repair Workshop Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our repair workshop operations. Your primary focus will be to develop and implement streamlined repair processes, lead a team of technicians, and ensure the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. You will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and delivering exceptional repair services to our customers. The Repair Center Leader has a key role to maximize the time on the road of our clients, which directly equates to their incomes as professional boda drivers.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational Roles

  • Process Development: Design, implement, and continuously improve repair processes to optimize efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.
  • Support less experienced technicians with the diagnosis of complex repairs/service to ensure customers are provided with high-quality service, and to pass on experience and knowledge to the less experienced team;
  • Customer Satisfaction: Champion a customer-centric approach, address customer inquiries and concerns promptly, and strive to exceed customer expectations at every interaction.
  • Supervise the cleaning and orderliness of the workshop to ensure full compliance with the 5S guidelines, the safety of customer vehicles, and to give customers confidence on the quality of service provided;
  • Any other duties assigned

Supervisory Roles

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to quality standards.
  • Allocate work to technicians to ensure vehicle service is done by qualified technicians depending on complexity
  • Coordinate quality control inspections to ensure all faults are identified before delivery to customers in order to avoid repeat jobs and customer complaints;
  • Maintain all workshop equipment, and monitor use by technicians to ensure the equipment are in good working condition at all times for minimal disruption to workshop operations;
  • Manage inventory levels, procure necessary parts and equipment, and ensure adequate stock levels to support repair operations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement KPIs to track workshop performance, analyze data, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards, and promote a safe working environment for all team members.

 



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Certificate or DIPLOMA in Automotive Engineering or electrical engineering
  • Five years of relevant experience with 2 years at Supervisory level
