Clarke International University (CIU) (Formerly, International Health Sciences University (IHSU) in Uganda is a University that is licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE [UI.PL 013]). CIU is a non-residential university offering health sciences and business courses and grooms students to become tomorrow’s leaders nationally and internationally. CIU is currently situated on the third floor at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) in Namuwongo.
Job Summary: The Driver will ensure the regular transportation of all university staff and students, ensuring quality and timely movements while adhering to traffic rules and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring timely transportation (pickups and drop offs) of university staff, students, and visitors to and from designated locations.
- Carrying out routine checks on the assigned vehicle(s); to ensure that it is compliant, road worthy and maintained up to the established safety and security standards.
- Ensuring regular service and maintenance of the vehicle(s); specifically ensuring that vehicle service and repairs are done on time.
- Reporting all mechanical defaults and performance failures of the vehicle to the immediate supervisor in a timely manner to avoid motor accidents and other related risks
- Assist in the delivery and collection of documents, packages, and other items as directed by the supervisor.
- Ensuring that all vehicle spare parts, first aid box, spare tires, vehicle jack, fire extinguisher and toolbox are functioning normally and kept safely.
- Keeping up-to-date records of trips schedules, daily mileage, vehicle condition reports, fuel records, and other reports for presentation to management.
- Ensuring valid documentation for passengers, items or cargo in the university vehicle, and assist the passengers in disembarking as well as loading and unloading of luggage.
- Ensuring that third-party and comprehensive motor vehicle insurances are up to date/renewed on time.
- Adhering to all traffic regulations and university driving safety guidelines.
- Ensuring security and safety of passengers and the vehicle, on and off the road and / or goods therein; as you conduct assigned tasks.
- Ensuring that the vehicle is clean for use at all times.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Performance Indicators
- Run official errands and ensure organization vehicle is used only for official purposes at all times
- Timely logistical support in terms of passenger/parcels pick-up and drop-off
- Maintain up-to date and correct vehicle records at all times; trips schedules, daily mileage, vehicle condition reports, fuel records and make monthly report to the supervisor
- Vehicle incidents are reported and action on time
- University vehicles are fully compliant with all accessories in place; licenses and permits are renewed on time, and servicing is done on time
- University vehicles are always clean, organized and in a usable condition at all times
- Develop monthly vehicle report(s) on fuel utilization, mileage, travel time and vehicle conditions
Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- Hold a valid Driving License. (DH-Class)
- At least five years of professional driving experience, preferably in an institutional or corporate setting.
- Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is a basic necessity.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, if required.
- Good working knowledge of all major local road networks and city streets
- Team spirit and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Defensive driving is an added advantage.
